Everton v Swansea City Preview, FA Cup, Sunday February 16th 2014

When the draw for the fifth round was made Everton fans would have been very happy that they avoided the top four premier league clubs, but looking at Everton’s recent form I don’t think they will have it all there own way in this game. Everton’s match with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night was called off due to high wind’s and heavy rain making traveling to Goodison park very difficult, so the players have had an extra few days rest for this game which is an obvious bonus for the hosts.

Swansea however got a good draw at the Britannia stadium against Stoke after being a goal behind and Swansea City’s new manager Gary Monk has done a good job since he took over from Michael Laudrup and after their win against Welsh rival’s Cardiff and their good point away at Stoke, Swansea will obviously be on a bit of a high and could prove difficult to beat.

Swansea also won in the third round away to Manchester United 2-1 and then won away again against Birmingham by the same scoreline, whilst Everton have won 4-0 at home to QPR and 4-0 away to Stevenage which will set up an interesting affair at Goodison Park Sunday afternoon.

Everton Team News:

Everton will be without Arouna Kone and Darren Gibson as they both are long term injuries who are both suffering with knee injuries. Bryan Oviedo is sidelined because of his double fracture of his leg which happened in the fourth round when Everton beat Stevenage. Antolin Alcarez is out with muscle damage and Romelu Lukaku looks set to miss out with an ankle injury, Everton have no players banned for the match.

Swansea City Team News:

Michu looks set to miss out yet again but Swansea Manager Gary Monk has not not ruled him out of this game and has a 25 percent chance of traveling to Goodison Park, Jonjo Shelvey also looks like will be unavailable for the trip to Everton as well, other than that Swansea have no suspensions going into this fa cup match on Sunday afternoon.

Everton v Swansea City Head to Head Statistics

This will only be the tenth ever meeting between the two clubs with Everton unbeaten in all of the previous 9 games with Everton recording 7 wins (2 of them coming at Goodison Park) and 2 draws with both of them coming at Goodison Park also.

As the table shows us below, in the last five meeting between the clubs Everton have won 4 and drew just the once.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the previous nine games played in the past between these two clubs we can see that there has been a total of 24 goals scored, which provides us with an average of 2.66 goals per game so hopefully we should see two if not three goals scored Sunday afternoon.

Everton v Swansea City Recent Form (Left to Right)

Everton: L W L D W

Swansea City: D W L W L

In the last 5 games in all competitions we can see there is nothing to choose from these two sides although you would have to look at Everton’s superb home record here and would fancy them to be favourites for this encounter.

Everton v Swansea City Match Betting Odds Market

Everton are at home for this Fa cup clash and we know that their home form is very good which is probably why the bookmakers fancy them to win this match comfortably with the best price available being 13/20 with Bet Victor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

The Draw could be good value even though i expect Everton to really have a go at Swansea, but i can see Swansea doing everything they can to get it back to the Liberty Stadium for a replay and the best odds available here are 3/1 with Sky Bet (£30 Free Bets for New Customers).

Swansea City are the away side but look likely to have a real go at Everton on Sunday afternoon. They might be looking at Wigan Athletics 3-0 victory in the FA Cup sixth round last season at Goodison Park and the current best odds for Swansea City to win this game are currently 11/2 from Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers).

Everton v Swansea City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With everything taken into account I can’t help but feel Sunday afternoon’s game will end in Everton’s favour. Everton’s 1-0 defeat against Spurs last time out was very harsh on the blues who played some good football at times and I really can’t see anything other than a Everton victory in this match.

Having said that though, Swansea City getting Wilfried Bony to the club in the summer has turned out to be a great signing as he has already scored 14 goals this season and if hes in the mood on Sunday then who knows what will happen.
