Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Preview, Premiership, Saturday 16th January 2016.

A rare loss for Tottenham Hotspurs midweek when they welcomed Leicester City to White Hart Lane and came away with nothing. The away side took all three points with a 1 – 0 win which took Leicester City back to joint top with forty three points. I can’t see that loss effecting them too much for this Saturdays game even though their opponents Sunderland earned a rare win against Swansea City away from home. After this Premiership fixture Tottenham Hotspurs do however have to face Leicester City again, this time away from home in the FA Cup third round replay. A fixture which will be very tough given how The Foxes are playing this season, giving all top sides a run for their money.

Sunderland midweek managed another rare win and make it now two wins in the last five games. Granted it was against Swansea City who are now only one point ahead of the Black Cats in seventeenth. If Sunderland did manage an away win against Spurs they will no doubt bounce above Swansea City and out of the relegation zone where they have spent most of their time this season alongside Aston Villa and neighbors Newcastle United. I am still favouring Sunderland to be relegated come the end of the season and join the likes of Aston Villa and one other in the Championship next season. That is of course unless the club can start turning around their season and grabbing many more points to aid them climb the table into safety.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs are still without three players for this fixture with Ryan Mason, Clinton N’jie and Alex Pritchard all out of action on Saturday. Spurs have yet to win a game in 2016 with their form declining somewhat since their last win away from home to Watford at the end of December.

Sunderland Team News:

Sunderland have a number of ex Spurs stars in their first team squad in which a few of them are currently out injured right now. Sebastian Larsson, Younes Kaboul and Adam Matthews are all unavailable for the trip to London. One former player they will be wary of is Defoe who scored a hat-trick against Swansea City during the week.

Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played we have seen Spurs pretty much dominate the games with four wins and the one draw. In total the two have played against each other on 104 occasions in which Sunderland have won 35 and lost 41, leaving 28 games ending as draws of some sort. Sunderland have won 13 times at White Hart Lane, with the last of these wins back in 2013 in a club friendly. The last competitive match win away from home was back in 2008.

Tottenham  Hotspurs haven’t won a game in 2016 yet with this years form very much up for a debate. Where as Sunderland have shockingly won twice this year, even if it is against bottom clubs Aston Villa and Swansea City. However in the last five games played it is Spurs who are slightly the better team in form and are favourites to win Saturday lunchtime.

Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Match Betting Odds Market

Tottenham Hotspur are at home this Saturday and are of course the bookmakers favourites to win this game. They did lose midweek at White Hart Lane but I can’t see them losing this game. Best odds on the home win seen coming in here @ 4/11 with BetVictor – Receive £50 Free Bets when Registering a New Account

The Draw would be a good result for Sunderland as they look to build on the rare win they earned during the week. Yet the odds are against them to grab another three points. Best odds on the draw found here @ 9/2 with Betfred – Bet £10 Get £30 Free Bets for New Registering Accounts

Sunderland may of won midweek against Swansea City yet are not considered having much hope against the likes of top four side Spurs, even though they themselves lost against Leicester City. Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premiership action again this weekend with Tottenham Hotspurs at home against relegation potentials Sunderland. The game can be viewed live on BT Sports 1 in High Definition and promises to be an exciting spectacle with Spurs losing their last game at home and of course Sunderland with a rare win away from home to Swansea City. A win for Sunderland would take them out of the relegation zone until at least Monday when Swansea City host Watford on Monday Night Football with Sky. A win for Tottenham Hotspurs however wont see them climb up the table, yet it will close the gap between them and Manchester City to one point with Spurs then hoping Crystal Palace manage to win away from home against Manuel Pellagrini’s side.

Tottenham Hotspurs haven’t won a game this year with draws against Everton in the league and Leicester City at home in the FA Cup third round. On top of that they then go and lose midweek against Leicester City at White Hart Lane in the Premiership, another result that if going the other way would of seen the gap close to one point. Spurs are favourites to win this Saturday lunchtime and it would be very welcomed as they then need to face Leicester City again next Wednesday in the FA Cup replay at Leicester. Sunderland’s form this year has been much better with two wins and the one loss away from home to Arsenal in the FA Cup.

My predictions for this game does of course back that of Tottenham Hotspurs to win, because regardless of Sunderland’s win I still can’t see them avoiding the drop into the Championship at the end of the season. For the first I plan to take both teams to score and Tottenham Hotspurs to win the game, which I feel is a possibility given Sunderland’s recent goal scoring count. The next I am going for is ex Spurs player Jermain Defoe to score anytime during the game, even though I doubt it will be Sunderland winning the game.
