Coventry City v Sheffield United Preview, League One, Thursday 15th December 2016.

Things continue to be bad for League One side Coventry City with them now without a win in the league since back at the beginning of November when they managed a 2 – 0 victory over Chesterfield. That said the club have managed to win other games but in cup competitions, with results over Wycombe Wanderers and Crawly Town in the EFL Trophy, and then the FA Cup win over Morecambe mid November.

With no cup games left to worry about until the 10th of January can Coventry City now start to worry about their league form. The next four fixtures are all League One matches and do not look too appealing for the struggling club. With Sheffield United, Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United all fighting for promotion I can’t see them getting any points there. The other is Bristol Rovers who are also in contention being just two points adrift Peterborough.

Sheffield United seem to have bounced back from their league defeat against Walsall with a 4 – 0 drumming over Swindon Town. Between these two results though we have seen the club knocked out of the FA Cup where they fell short against Bolton Wanderers who are just above them in the league table. The visitors are without doubt the clear favourites when these two meet on Thursday evening.

We should really see Sheffield United win all of their next five games in the league, although they do face Walsall again at the back of the list. that said it surely was a freak result at home against the struggling side so I still favour them to win all three points. The club have Oldham Athletic and Bury who are fighting for the relegation survival, as well as Northampton who are scrapping it out in the middle of the table.

Coventry City Team News:

Coventry City could be without number 1 goalkeeper Lee Burge on Thursday, with the stopper looking to make a late fitness test. Defender Dion Kelly-Evans also returns to action having fully recovered from his injury, while Andy Rose and Chris McCann escaped injury after they recently returned for action. Still out injured however are defenders Ryan Haynes and Jamie Sterry,

Sheffield United Team News:

Sheffield United have no new fresh injury concerns and manager Chris Wilder looks set to name the same side who beat Swindon Town recently. Striker Caolan Lavery could make a start after scoring off the bench recently.

In the last five games played Coventry City are not exactly lighting up the footballing world right now with four loses and a win. Where as Sheffield United are high up the table fighting for that prestigious promotion into the Championships. Although they themselves have lost a couple of games lately they are still up top with three points off the current league leaders.

Coventry City v Sheffield United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

League One action this week will bring us home side Coventry City verses Sheffield United. The home side are really struggling with their league form currently and have not won a game in the competition since the beginning of November. They have won a few games however in cup competitions but have since then been knocked out of the EFL Trophy and FA Cup.

Sheffield United may well be away from home this Thursday, yet it is them who have been set as the clear and solid favourites to win this fixture against the struggling side Coventry City. A win this week could see Sheffield Wednesday close the gap between them and leaders Scunthorpe United although they will stay top due to the goal difference. This does of course depend on other results throughout the league this week.

Coventry City on the other hand are in serious need of a league win, with the last coming way back at the beginning of November. They currently sit in the relegation zone and a loss could see them drop to the bottom depending on the three teams below them. A win, however unlikely it is, could see them jump out of the drop zone but does of course depend on how Bury do against Oxford United at home on Saturday.

My predictions for this game will be that of backing the away team Sheffield United for the win, as I just cannot see Coventry City doing much to stop the inform Blades. My banker tip will be for Sheffield United to win this game to nil, as I cannot see many goals in the home side this Thursday evening. The other I am going for is a little far fetched, but I just have a deep gut feeling plenty of goals will be scored this night. With that I am going to take the away side to win the game 4 – 0.
