Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Sunday 15th December 2013

This Sunday will prove to be a tough test for home side Tottenham Hotspurs, who are a side looking to show the world they are indeed ready for the Champions League. With a win on Sunday it would indeed prove they have the makings of that dream as those 3 points would bring them level with the Merseyside club who currently sit in 2nd. Granted it also depends on the other 4 teams above them including arch rivals Arsenal who begrudgingly for any Spurs fan, sit atop of the Premiership. They however also have a tough game as they play away to Manchester City on Saturday.

Liverpool were on the end of some bad news recently with club captain and Liverpool legend Stevie Gerard out until after Christmas after pulling his hamstring in the game at Anfield where they beat West Ham United 4 goals to 1. It is a huge blow for the Merseyside club who have in recent weeks been scoring very freely. Gerard’s last goal was only recently in the game away from home against Hull City who actually beat Liverpool 3 -1 on the day. Since then Liverpool have bounced back and scored 9 goals in 2 games with Suarez scoring 6 of them.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs are without a handful of players for Sundays game with the more important being Jan Vertonghen who is suffering with a bad ankle. We also have Chiriches (Knee), Adebayor (Knee), Kaboul (hip) and Harry Kane who has only played for 8 minutes this season also out with a back injury.

Liverpool Team News:

As mentioned above Liverpool are now without club captain Steven Gerard who is out until after Christmas with a hamstring injury. We also have Daniel Sturridge out until late January with ankle ligament problems. Jose Enrique is another name out until the end of January with a knee injury that he picked up in training after the Fulham game back in November.

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

It is only in the last 5 head to head statistics that you see Tottenham Hotspurs have the upper hand, yet if we look back through the 143 games played between these two historic clubs we can see Liverpool do in fact dominate having won 65 to Tottenham’s 42. We also see that Liverpool have won 21 times at White Hart Lane and could see that increase on Sunday.

06/02/12 PRL Liverpool – Tottenham Hotspur 0 : 0
18/09/11 PRL Tottenham Hotspur – Liverpool 4 : 0

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 143 games played between these two English giants we have seen a total of 389 goals scored which is giving us an average of 2.7 goals per game and with Liverpool’s Suarez if goal scoring form we could quite easily see that and more this coming Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Recent Form (Left to Right)

Tottenham Hotspur: W W W D W

Liverpool: W W L D W

Its hard to see why in recent months people have been called for the Tottenham Managers head, with the form they are in recently I now wonder if it has in fact silenced those who wanted him out. Granted they did drop down the league some and it was only until they faced Manchester United at home did that form start to change and see the North London club start to once again rise up the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Well well what a game to predict as I am sure any neutral will agree that this will be an exciting game to watch. In one hand we have Tottenham Hotspurs out to prove that they are indeed a team to be feared and also be a contender for Champions League football. And then also Liverpool who are fighting hard for a Champions League spot which could guarantee them the signature of the incredibly in form Luiz Suarez.

The results in the head to head statistics do favor that of Liverpool but you have to consider the team Tottenham Hotspurs have now having spent over 100 million in the summer. Although you can tell they do miss Gareth Bale who is now plying his trade and doing very well in Spain for Real Madrid you can’t help but notice that whatever the fee Spurs have spent Chadli and co are not in the same league as the Welshman.

So predictions, predictions! A tough one to call so I don’t feel any correct score guesses are on the cards for Sundays game. But if I am honest I do see Liverpool winning this game but only slightly, which would suggest that I can see both teams scoring which gives you my first prediction. The other comes for Liverpool to win and Luiz Suarez to score anytime in the 90 minutes.
