Aston Villa v Manchester United Preview, Premiership, Sunday 15th December 2013

It’s been a rather frustrating time if you are an Aston Villa fan, as after an opening day victory over Arsenal things started off looking very promising indeed, but with only 5 victories in total picked up after 15 matches played they currently occupy 11th position in the league table and will have to improve to have any chance of qualification to Europe next season.

Manchester United fans are pretty much in the same boat as the Villa fans, as their season has been on to forget already and any hopes of them being able to retain their Premiership title has now all but vanished and it is quite strange how a side that has the same players that won the title last season can be in such disarray.

Injuries have obviously not helped David Moyes, but there still seems to be something missing from the squad and with Wayne Rooney still wanting a transfer away from the club in January the future looks far from getting much better.

Aston Villa Team News:

Jores Okore, Fabian Delph and Charles N’Zogbia are all unavailable for the hosts as they continue to recover from respective injury problems. Joe Bennett, Antonio Luna, Ron Vlaar and Libor Kozak all have knocks and will under take a late fitness test to see if any of them can be involved. 5-3-2 looks the likely formation that manager Paul Lambert will use for this game which will see Benteke and Kozak leading the attack up front with support from midfield coming from El Ahmadi, Agbonlahor and Westwood.

Striker Christian Benteke is the clubs current top goalscorer this season with 3.

Manchester United Team News:

Robin Van Persie is definitely ruled out for this game as he struggles with a thigh injury and looks likely to be out until at least after the New Year which is a major blow for United fans, although the good news is that Wayne Rooney returns having served his one game suspension and will lead the attack up front in what is likely to be a 4-2-3-1 formation with Nani, Jones, Cleverley and Januzaj providing support from the midfield.

Striker Wayne Rooney is the clubs current top goalscorer this season with 8.

Aston Villa v Manchester United Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s lunch time game from Villa Park Stadium will become the 156th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Aston Villa have won 38 (28 at Villa Park) times, Manchester United have won 80 (29 at Villa Park) times with the remaining 37 (21 at Villa Park) games having finished all square.

The previous 5 games played between the two clubs show Manchester United having a commanding advantage winning all 5 with Aston Villa having not even managed to secure a Draw.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

482 goals have been scored in the previous 155 games played between the two clubs which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 3.10 which strongly suggests that this game should see at least a few goals scored on sunday afternoon.

Aston Villa v Manchester United Recent Form (Left to Right)

Aston Villa: W D D W L

Manchester United: W D L L W

Nothing between the two sides on the recent form statistics with both clubs having managed just 2 victories from their last 5 matches played. Aston Villa have only lost 1 of their last 5 though, compared to Manchester United who have lost 2.

Aston Villa v Manchester United Match Betting Odds Market

Aston Villa are not expected to win this game with the online bookmakers offering up a best price of 17/4 with Bet365 (£200 Free Bets for New Customers) and with Paul Lambert’s side only have won 2 of their 7 games played at Villa Park this season in the league, it doesn’t seem likely the hosts will attract much support from the punters in this one.

The Draw would probably be the best result that Aston Villa could achieve in this game, but even that looks unlikely as their record at home is not very encouraging and I doubt the current best price of 14/5 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers) will see the punters be prepared to part with their dosh.

Manchester United have to start winning games if they are to have any real chance of finishing in the top 4 this season and with Rooney and Van Persie likely to lead the attack up front for the visitors their current best price of 8/11 with Paddy Power (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) does look the value play here.

Aston Villa v Manchester United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Aston Villa have beaten both Arsenal and Manchester City so far this season and nothing would be better for the players and fans if they were to add Manchester United to that list come sunday afternoon

However, regardless of how poor Manchester United are playing at the moment, I find it extremely difficult to see Aston Villa winning this game as with Wayne Rooney now back leading the attack up front and the Aston Villa defence having had major problems keeping goals out, this should end up being a comfortable victory for David Moyes’ side.

The average goals per game statistics suggest this game could see at least a few goals scored, so betting markets like Total Match Goals 2 or 3, Over 2.5 Goals and Anytime Goalscorers  are all worth having a close look at.
