Southampton v Everton Preview, Premiership, Saturday 15th August 2015

Southampton will be happy with their 2-2 draw away at Newcastle on the opening day of the new season last weekend and now turn their attention to Everton on Saturday in what on paper looks to be an interesting match.

Southampton now have Jay Rodriguez back in the squad after missing most of last season witha broken leg and he got a good run out in the first game against Newcastle United having played almost three quaters of the match before being taken off and his presence in the side will make sure fellow striker Pelle is on form because Rodriguez can also play in a central lone striker role and will take any chance he gets as proving his worth as the main lead striker if Pelle fails to deliver.

Everton started their new season at home to Watford who twice led only to be pegged back by goals from Barkley and Arouna Kone.

It was Kone’s second goal in the Premier league for Everton since signing from Wigan two years ago and with the club having made a couple of good signings over the summer Martinez has said he still wants to bring in at least three more players before the window shuts although he has said that he won’t be drawn into panic buying anyone and that any new signings will only arrive if the price is right.

Southampton Team News:

J Clasie will undergo a late fitness test to see if his hamstring has fully healed. Ramirez and Gardos are both injured and have no return date, whilst Bertrand and Foster will also miss this encounter down to respective injury problems.

Everton Team News:

Everton will head down south with no fewer than eight injured players. Pienaar, Gibson, Baines, McGeady and Hibbert are definitely injured. Mirallas, Deulofeu and Besic are all touch and go and will take late fitness tests.

New signing Dimitri Payet shone in an exciting Marseille side last season to the extent that his 135 chances created was the most of any player in any of the top five European leagues and big things are expected from his this season.

Southampton v Everton Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday lunchtime’s game from St Marys Stadium will become the 76th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Southampton have won 22 with 17 of those having came with home advantage where as Everton have managed 38 victories, with just 11 of those having came away from home.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

216 Goals have been scored in the previous 76 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.84.

110 of those Goals have came in the 38 previous matches played at the Emirates Stadium and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.89.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game should see a minimum of at least two goals scored and it is interesting that four of the five games have been won to nil.

The Draw has happened only once in the previous five meetings between the two clubs over recent seasons and does look an unlikely outcome here and is a current best price of 5/2 with Bet365 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers.

Everton have it all do do here and the confidence within the squad is obviously going to be suffering after only managing a 2-2 draw at home to Watford. The best price is 33/10 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets for New Customers.

Southampton v Everton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Southamptonl have had a great pre-season and their opening day result will only fill them with confidence as they probably should have won the game. This will be a different test for the Southampton who are the bookmakers favourites and have won their last two home games against Everton 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. Ronald Koeman will expect his players to win all three points here but he will be weary because on paper Everton have the stronger team.

Southampton will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Pelle leading the line in attack with Tadic, Mane and Rodriguez supporting the Italian front man.

Everton will be disappointed that they twice trailed Watford at Goodison Park last weekend however, this is a new match and they will need to get out the blocks fast and make sure they take any chances they are presented with.

My Banker is going to be both teams to score as in both respective matches played last weekend there were two goals a piece.

My First Goal Scorer Prediction is going to be for Pelle as I believe he is Southampton’s best chance of a goal at the moment and he scored in his last match.
