PSG v Barcelona Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 15th April

Paris st Germain have yet another cup game this week but this one is slightly more important with it being the Champions League Quarter Final 1st leg. They have had the pleasure of beating the Spanish giants before as the two shared the same group during the beginning stages of the competition. In the last five head to head encounters the French do come out equal with a win each and three draws previously. They should also be the favourites for the win on Wednesday night against Barcelona, but will need to make it a decent one as Barcelona will no doubt retaliate when they play the second leg in Spain. PSG are still top of the French league but are only one point clear of closest challengers Lyon.

Barcelona are still leading the way when it comes down to the Spanish La Liga yet having drawn recently against Sevilla they have allowed Real Madrid to close the gap to just two points. Barcelona are second favourites to win the competition and are behind the German champions Bayern Munich. PSG are not given much hope of winning the competition and over the two legs Barcelona are the favourites to progress into the semi-finals. With PSG the only team to beat Barcelona in the Champions League this season they will need to be careful and play to their full potential if they do wish to avoid the same result.

PSG Team News:

I have reports that David Luiz is out injured with his hamstring, as well as Thiago Motta with a thigh muscle strain. Verratti is also out of the selection process due to serving a suspension. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is serving a suspension that wont finish until early May. Which will be a big blow with the Swede being the clubs top scorer this season.

Barcelona Team News:

There are reports that Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen is back in training after being out of the team since joining from Arsenal last Summer. The defender was even injured with a hamstring pull before signing for Barcelona and has to be one of the worst signings the club have made to date.

PSG v Barcelona Head to Head Statistics

In the last five head to head encounters between these two European giants we have seen both sides win once each and draw the remaining three. It is also the total amount these two have played each other over time with the two only playing the one friendly back in 2012.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the five games played between these two sides we have seen a total of 19 goals scored which is going to give us an average of 3.8 goals per game. It is always a little dangerous to go for the above so I would rather go for the below option.

PSG v Barcelona Form (Left to Right)

PSG: W W W W L

Barcelona: D W W W W

Both clubs here are in exceptional form this season and both lead their domestic leagues by a point or two. Both are also favourites to finish on top of the pile come the end of the season, yet only one side here are seen as favourites to progress into the semi-finals.

PSG v Barcelona Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Champions League action this Wednesday comes live to us on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features Paris st Germain verses Barcelona who have yet to beat the French champions on their own turf. PSG have had the pleasure of beating Barcelona at home which has come this season then the two met in the group stages. They are the only team to have beaten Barcelona in the Champions League this season so they can be proud of that fact at least.

Both teams are in exceptional form this season and both lead from the top of their domestic league tables. Although the leads are very close between their closest challengers they still are installed as favourites to finish first come the end of the season. PSG are not seen as having much hope of progressing into the semi-finals, with Barcelona as the competitions second favourites to win overall.

My predictions for this fixture on Wednesday night will see Barcelona win away from home in France since 2001 as they are clearly the better team here, and with PSG missing some important players they could struggle on the night. So for the first I am going to go for both teams to score and Barcelona to win on the night. With the next being a correct score draw of 2 – 2, which I also feel has a good chance of coming in.
