Aston Villa v Chelsea Preview, Premiership, Saturday 15th March 2014

Aston Villa finally ended a run of bad results when facing Norwich City at the beginning of the month, with a 4 – 1 victory over Chris Hughton’s side which perked up what was to be a very bad February. With loses to Everton, West Ham United at home and then Newcastle away it was only the goalless draw away to Cardiff City that gave the midland club their first point. Their game last weekend to Manchester City was postponed due to City’s FA Cup clash to Wigan which should give Villa some fresh legs this weekend against Chelsea.

Chelsea are the Premiership league leaders right now with an impressive seven points a drift of Liverpool who are joint 2nd with Arsenal. Jose Mourinho will want to continue their winning ways which will continue to ply pressure on Manchester City who have three games in hand which if won could place them top with goal difference. An away fixture to Aston Villa will be a tough game for Chelsea with the midland club not having a game last weekend due to a postponed game, and although they will be rested and fresh for the game we should still see the London based club come out easy winners over the ninety minutes.

Aston Villa Team News:

Aston Villa have a number of injuries with four players missing for Saturdays clash to Chelsea. With Christopher Herd (Hamstring) and Charles N’Zogbia (Shin) the first two we also see Jores Okore missing with crucial knee ligament damage. Finishing up is Libor Kozak who has been missing a while after breaking his leg at the beginning of the year and will unlikely feature again this season.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea also have four crocked players for this game with three of them being key figures at the club. Fernando Torres is missing with a groin strain while David Luiz is also out with a damaged hip. Ashley Young is once again sidelined with a knee injury even though the England defender only just managed to force his way back into the first eleven recently. Long term injury Marco van Ginkel is still out with a crucial knee ligament issue and wont feature at all this season.

Aston Villa v Chelsea Head to Head Statistics:

Its not all grim for Aston Villa as they managed to at least beat Chelsea once in their last five encounters. but looking at the other four results we can clearly see the dominance of Chelsea over the last decade. In total we have seen these two clash 136 times with both teams coming up close in regards to wins. Chelsea have won 54 to Aston Villa’s 50 with the remaining 32 games ended as draws. Chelsea have won 18 times away from home as well as drawing 19 times at Villa Park.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these previous 136 games played we have seen a total of 412 goals which is giving us an average of 3 goals per game which should suggest with both sides current form could well be on the cards for Saturday evenings game. In the last 5 head to head statistics we have see 26 goals which is giving us an extremely high average of 5.2 goals per game. But that shouldn’t be looked at with too much threat as Chelsea have beaten Villa once in an 8 – 0 thriller.

Aston Villa v Chelsea Recent Form (Left to Right)

Aston Villa: W L D L L

Chelsea: W W D W L

Chelsea are in good form with only one lose in their last five games which see them exit the FA Cup to Manchester City last month. Aston Villa are in terrible form as of late with only their last game seeing a victory at the hands of Norwich City who they demolished 4 – 1 on the day.

Aston Villa v Chelsea Match Betting Odds Market

Aston Villa are at home on Saturday and will be rested but are still looked as outsiders for any chance of a win here at Villa Park. With the bookmakers best odds currently seen here @ 13/2 with Stan James – Receive £10 Free Bets when Registering an Account

The Draw is a result seen many times in the past but with Aston Villa’s current form I wouldn’t like to predict this happening with any confidence. Chelsea are punishing teams right now and the bookmakers know this which is why the best odds seen are currently @ 10/3 with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Chelsea are away from home and easily the favourites for this clash on Saturday. With seeing off teams with ease recently I would not back any other result. The bookmakers best odds available are currently set @ 11/20 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

Aston Villa v Chelsea Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

I’m looking forward to this game on Saturday but only because I remember the eight goal hammering Chelsea gave Villa back in December 2012. What away to finish the year for Chelsea football club, and if you were sitting there watching the box still stuffed on left over turkey and Christmas pud then you will know what I am talking about. As a neutral watching any team bang eight goals past a club always makes for good viewing as long as its not against your own supported club!

Aston Villa are rested for this game and did actually end a terrible run of results with a convincing win over Norwich City at Villa Park back at the beginning of the month. But with their last game postponed due to Manchester City’s FA Cup clash to Wigan could the break be seen more as a downfall as their rise in confidence could of dropped due to the time out. Chelsea will be looking forward to this match and will be looking at it with a must win attitude as they look to continue with their league run away. With seven points between them and both Liverpool and Arsenal it is only Manchester City who could potentially scarper their title winning chances as they have three games in hand which if won would place them top on with better goal difference.

So lets get down to the fun part and attempt some predictions for this Saturdays Premiership game. I will of course go for a Chelsea win as I seriously cannot see Villa grabbing any points here at their home ground. But with that win I am going for an Eden Hazard anytime goal as the Belgium youngster is in incredible form right now. The other I am going for is Chelsea to win by a three goal margin.
