Arsenal v Middlesbrough Preview, FA Cup 5th Round,  Sunday 15th February 2015

Arsenal were in fine form with five wins in a row before they met Tottenham Hotspurs in the bitter local derby last weekend. The game ended 2 – 1 to Spurs which had hurt Arsenal as they dropped below their rivals in the Premiership table battle. Yet midweeks Premiership fixtures took place in which Arsenal turned over bottom club Leicester City 2 – 1 although the relegation battling side did have an opportunity or two to bring the game level. Tottenham Hotspurs then lost the exciting game against Liverpool in a 3 – 2 thriller allowing The Gunners to once again climb above Spurs into 5th.

Championship side Middlesbrough are one of the favourites to earn promotion into the Premier League this season and they currently sit one point clear of Bournemouth in 1st position. They beat bottom club Blackpool 2 – 1 with Bournemouth only managing a draw against Derby. We also must remember that Middlesbrough did beat Premiership Champions Manchester City in the 4th round with two goals in the second half to win the game 2 – 0 come the end. That weekend provided a lot of shock exits from the FA Cup with Chelsea, Southampton and two others seeing exit from the competition.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal are without a number of players right now with Aaron Ramsey once again missing with his hamstring he pulled against Leicester City. Diaby is still missing due to a calf muscle strain while Oxlade-Chamberlain is out with a groin strain. Artete with an ankle injury and French full back Debuchy almost complete the collection of crocked players with a shoulder injury. The worst of the crop is Jack Wilshere with ankle ligament damage and although I have it on paper that he is due to return end of this month, manager Arsene Wenger has stated he himself is unsure when the England midfielder will return.

Middlesbrough Team News:

Sadly we do not have any injury news on Middlesbrough right now so will assume they are at full health for this FA Cup clash on Sunday. The clubs top scorer currently is Grant Leadbitter who has so far scored eleven league goals as well as one Capital One Cup goal. The midfielder has also assisted in nine goals overall in all competitions and is an integral part of the midfield for Middlesbrough this season.

Arsenal v Middlesbrough Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup 5th Round Action this Sunday will see Premiership club Arsenal verses Championship leaders Middlesbrough. The game will be live on BT Sports 1 High Definition and be played at The Emirates giving Arsenal the home advantage for this encounter. Both teams are in very good form with now with both clubs winning eight of their last ten fixtures in all competitions. Middlesbrough are just out in front with the remaining two games being draws, where as Arsenal’s remaining two goals ended with loses to Tottenham Hotspurs and Southampton in the league.

Arsenal are once again without influential midfielder Aaron Ramsey who picked up a hamstring injury against Leicester City in the week, although they have seen Alexis Sanchez return from his own injury issue. Theo Walcott is starting to rekindle his form after six months out with the winger now scoring three goals in Arsenals last five matches in all competitions. Middlesbrough however do have a midfield maestro themselves with Grant Leadbitter being in exceptional form having scored twelve, and assisting nine goals in all competitions.

My predictions for this game with actually back both teams to win in some way or another. I had a strong feeling this morning that Middlesbrough just very well could do it on Sunday with them being in such great form right now. So for the first I am going for Grant Leadbitter to score his first FA Cup goal of the competition and Middlesbrough to win the game. With the second seeing Arsenal to win or draw the game after coming back from being behind in the match.
