Osasuna v Real Madrid Preview, Copa del Rey, Wednesday 15th January 2014

Osasuna played reasonably well in the 1st leg away at the famous Santiago Bernabeu and held out until the 19th minute before Karim Benzema broke the deadlock. It then took a further forty minutes for the home side to score again with Jese this time the scorer on the hour mark. There were a lot of positives taken from the match and Osasuna grew in confidence as they then faced bottom club Real Betis in the La Liga away from home. The game ended 2 – 1 to Osasuna on the day although Real Betis did score late on in the 80th minute and then piled on a further ten minutes of awkward pressure.

Real Madrid may of won the 1st leg but the fans and manager were worried quite a few times during the match where their opponents played exceptionally well. Luckily enough the two goals came and released some pressure as they take a 2 point lead on aggregate into this 2nd leg. Real Madrid however had a very important game three days after the cup game with a difficult away fixture against 12th place Espanyol to deal with. It was a great opportunity for 3rd placed Real Madrid to close the gap on joint leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid who drew on the game of the weekend. With a goal from Pepe in the 55th minute Real then had to battle hard to keep the win and claim all three points and thus closing the game to just three points.

Osasuna Team News:

Not much change here in regards to Osasuna’s recovering key men as we still see Armenteros out with a hamstring injury. Then we have the Spanish trio Manuel (Thigh), Sisi (Crucial Knee Ligaments) and Nino (Crucial Knee Ligaments) still recovering with Manuel the more likely to return sooner. Osasuna are struggling for goals right now and are heavily relying on Spaniard Oriol Riera who has notched seven goals in eighteen games so far. He is the only striker at the club who has managed to score which is very disappointing as Nunez (6) and Manuel(12) have all played their fair share of matches.

Real Madrid Team News:

Real Madrid’s only injury worries are Frenchman Raphael Varane who is out with a knee injury and then long term injury Sami Khedira who is recovering from crucial knee ligaments damage.
Gareth Bale is in need of some match fitness after returning from injury and could be set to start on Wednesday night. The Welsh star has so far scored seven goals in twelve appearances this season and even started his new career here slow. But now he seems to have won over the Real Madrid fans which will only help the worlds record transfer cement his feet firmly in the ground with life in Spain.

Osasuna v Real Madrid Head to Head Statistics:

Osasuna have managed a few draws in the past against these Spanish giants but have only won at home to Real Madrid on 4 occasions in the 30 games played. Real Madrid however have won 7 times away to Osasuna as well as drawn 4 of them. Not to bad a result in 15 away matches played in the past.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

Osasuna v Real Madrid Recent Form (Left to Right)

Osasuna: W L W D D

Real Madrid: W W W W W

Real Madrid are flying right now having not lost in 16 games in all competitions, and they will look to continue that run against Osasuna on Wednesday and add more goals to complete a healthy goals aggregate.  Osasuna’s form is actually good regardless of them sitting in 13th position in the La Liga. Excluding the loss to Real Madrid in the 1st leg they unbeaten in 6 games.

Osasuna v Real Madrid Match Betting Odds Market

Osasuna did well in the 1st leg with only losing 2 – 0, yet for them to win at home against a side like Real Madrid would be seen by bookmakers as unlikely. The best odds coming in right now are found here @ 9/1 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Osasuna v Real Madrid Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

After writing the preview for the 1st leg I was a little shocked not to see more goals from Real Madrid who have so far this season been punishing the lower half of the table. I did nearly get one of them right if only the Frenchman Benzema grabbed himself a second goal. But anyway we can’t get them all right so lets now try and look into what Wednesdays game has to offer.

We have lately seen Real Madrid struggle to punish teams but have still ground out a winning results, so we should keep that piece of information close when getting down to what predictions I need to go for. We do see Karim Benzema scoring on a regular occasion lately so this could also be something to consider if we go for a predicted goal scorer. We are still unsure if Gareth Bale is going to start or feature in Wednesday Cope del Rey’s game so would it be a waste if using him in any kind of prediction.

Yet I do see the new winner of the Ballon d’Or playing in this game as the Portuguese star has been in sensational form once more and has so far scored an incredible twenty goals in eighteen games so far this season. Cristiano Ronaldo will be very much up for this game after winning the award so could well grab a goal or two if things go his way. So my predictions start with Ronaldo to score and Real Madrid to win over the 90 minutes. The other is for Karim Benzema to First in the game in hope that he could continue to score a brace or more on the day.
