Barcelona v Villarreal Preview, Primera La Liga, Saturday, 14th December 2013

There is a lot of Barcelona talk lately in the papers and online which the main talking points being Messi and a new contract. I am not sure why contract talks have come up for Messi after the player only recently signed a new one taking him up to 2018, so I can only imagine its due to Real Madrid paying Cristiano Ronaldo a lot more which would make the Portuguese the best paid player in the world. If anything it will be Gerard Pique who is top of the list in regards to contract talks, with the Spanish stars deal ending in 2015 which has led to rumours about a possible transfer to English club Manchester City.

Villarreal have been experiencing a lot of mixed results this season and have only suffered 3 loses this season which is why they sit in the very respectable position of 5th in the Spanish La Liga. Although we see the top three clubs running away with the league this year it will be Villarreal’s chance to grab back a few points as they currently sit 12 points behind Saturdays opponents. They have already lost to Athletic Club this term as they themselves only sit 1 point above in 4th position.

Barcelona v Villarreal Team News

Barcelona Team News:

Barcelona are still without a number of their stars with the more recent additions being Dani Alves who was ruled out with a calf strain last month. We also are still without Valdes (calf), Tello (ankle) and Lionel Messi who is still missing due to a hamstring injury. They will also be without Adriano Correia who is serving a 3 match ban.

Villarreal Team News:

Villarreal are still without the 35 year old Farinos who has yet to make an appearance this year. They will also be missing Bruno who is serving a suspension and will return after Saturdays game to Barcelona.

Barcelona v Villarreal Head to Head Statistics

Incredibly enough in the 28 games played between these two teams we have seen Villarreal win 8 of them and drawing 7. Which is an incredible feat considering the team Barcelona is know for. But we need to also look at the recent years where we can pretty much see Barcelona dominate the results having won 4 and drawn 1.

28/01/12 PRD Villarreal – Barcelona 0 : 0
29/08/11 PRD Barcelona – Villarreal
5 : 0
02/04/11 PRD Villarreal – Barcelona 0 : 1
13/11/10 PRD Barcelona – Villarreal 3 : 1

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the last 28 games played we have seen 84 goals scored which is giving us a high average of 3 goals per game, and if you look at the last 5 results we have seen Barcelona score 13 of them to Villarreal’s 2.

Barcelona v Villarreal Recent Form (Left to Right)

Barcelona: W W L L W

Villarreal: D D W D W

If we were using the last 5 games to see who was in better form you would have to say Villarreal, but we do need to consider to games each team are playing. Lets use the La Liga as a base here which would put Barcelona in better form having won 4 and losing the other. Where as Villarreal have won 2, drawn 2 and lost the last.

Barcelona v Villarreal Match Betting Odds Market.

Barcelona are clear favourites for this match with being at home and siting a comfortable 12 points clear of their opponents. We see the best odds coming in @ 1/3 with Stan James (£10 Free Bets for New Customers)

The Draw could be an option I am sure as Villarreal are a team in good form right now, and bookmakers are setting the best odds here @ 9/2 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers)

Villarreal are not really given much chance of a win at the Camp Nou which is surprising as they are in good form right now. We have the best odds here coming in @ 10/1 with Bet365 – £200 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Barcelona v Villarreal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Barcelona would be the team to back here even though they did manage to lose their first La Liga game against Athletic Club at the beginning of December. It leaves them top of the La Liga still but only by a +2 goal difference. With Atletico Madrid hot on their tales Barcelona will be looking for a good win on Saturday as Madrid themselves are facing Valencia which should be 3 points in the bag for them.

So as for predictions, its bizarre really as the bookmakers have this down as an easy win for Barcelona, I am struggling to think if they have looked at Villarreal’s recent run of form because they are not sitting in 5th with 1 point behind Athletic Club for no reason. I personally don’t think this will be an easy win for the la Liga leaders although I do feel as though they will win by the end of the game. So my first prediction will be for both teams to score and for Barcelona to win with the other being both Neymar and Cesc Fabregas to score.
