Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United Preview, Premiership, Sunday 13th December 2015.

Tottenham Hotspurs will be hoping to knock Newcastle United back down a peg when they visit White Hart Lane on Sunday, especially with them beating Liverpool 2 – 0 last weekend. The bookmakers are of course favouring that of Spurs for the win especially with the London clubs good run of form. Tottenham Hotspurs started this week with a great win at home against French side Monaco in the Europa League, and finished top of the group with ease and make it into the knockout stages. The clubs last two Premier League games have ended with draws, with a goalless game at home to Chelsea and then a 1 – 1 result against thirteenth place West Bromwich Albion. Their last league win was back in November when they humiliated the high flying West Ham United 4 – 1 at White Hart Lane which only adds to the one other win in their last five league appearances.

Newcastle United did exceptionally well last weekend when they welcomed in form Liverpool to their ground. They won the game 2 – 0 which shocked the Liverpool fans and club officials, especially with Newcastle United only managing ten points in the fourteen games before then. A win on Sunday is seen as unlikely against the London club, even though their confidence rose somewhat after that Liverpool victory. Spurs smashed Monaco in the Europa League, and Newcastle United will find it tough to keep out the attacking force of Tottenham especially after Harry Kane was rested. After this Spurs fixture Newcastle United have three games with a better chance of earning some points, with home fixtures against Aston Villa and Everton on the horizon. They then travel to West Bromwich Albion for a tough game, but even there points are on offer for the relegation battling side.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Tottenham Hotspurs are only missing a couple of players for this fixture, with Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard still out of contention. We did see Eric Dier come off in their last fixture which did cause reason to be worried, and we wont know until closer the time if the midfielder will be ready to play or not. Another player a doubt could be Mousa Demebele which will also be a major blow for Tottenham. Harry Kane was rested against Monaco after having played in every fixture this season, and should start once again come Sunday.

Newcastle United Team News:

Newcastle United’s squad has been ravaged by injuries which could account to their possible league position this season. Even though there are the usual nine players out of selection we are seeing that Cheick Tiote and Rolando Adams are close to a return, although the Spurs game in no doubt too soon. Georginio Wijnaldum was the main reason why Newcastle United beat Liverpool last weekend, which he has done on a couple of occasions much like he did against Norwich City.

Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five fixtures played against each other we have seen Tottenham Hotspurs come out on top with three wins and a couple of loses. The loses however should worry Spurs with both being at White Hart Lane and in recent years. In total the two have met on 131 occasions with Tottenham Hotspurs coming out on top with 58 wins and 27 draws. meaning Newcastle United have won on 46 occasions throughout the years.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 131 games featured against each other we have seen a total of 418 goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 3.2 which is pretty spot on when looking at four of the last five fixtures played against each other. That said I still think between two and three goals scored is a good option.

Newcastle United may of won their last game and beaten Liverpool in the process, yet they are by far a team in good form right now with them sitting in a relegation position and only 13 points from a maximum of 45. Spurs are at home and in excellent form this season and will of course be set as the clear and solid favourites to win come Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premier League action this Sunday comes live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features home side Tottenham Hotspurs welcoming Newcastle United to White Hart Lane. In previous years we have seen some excellent exciting matches with plenty of goals scored by either side, and I am hoping to see more of the same come Sunday. The odds are it will be Spurs coming out the winners with their attacking football being second to none recently. Harry Kane was rested for the Europa League game against Monaco, where Erik Lamela became the hero with a silky first half hat-trick, helping the side win the game 4 – 1 on the night.

Newcastle United as we know have been a side ravaged with injuries, which could lead to their extreme poor league position this season. The way Newcastle United are going right now we could see them relegated come the end of the season, potentially alongside bitter rivals Sunderland and then Aston Villa. That said there are a number of clubs level with Newcastle United, but unless they start to win a few games then bottom three is more likely for the next few weeks. A Tottenham Hotspurs win wont see the club climb up the league, yet it could see them close the gap on the top four if their own fixtures end badly. Which does seem unlikely for Arsenal who face Aston Villa away, and also Manchester United who host Bournemouth. Top of the league Leicester City face Chelsea which could be exciting, while Manchester City are also favourites to beat the struggling manager-less Swansea City.

My predictions for this fixture does see Tottenham Hotspurs come out with an easy win of some sort and I am wondering if this Newcastle United can score during the match, which is usually hit and miss when looking at the last five games played against each other. That said I am going to go with a goal margin win of three, and of course for Spurs to win.
