Bosnia-Herzegovina v Republic of Ireland Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification Play-Off 1st Leg, Friday 13th November 2015.

With a few poor results at the beginning of their qualifying group we see Bosnia-Herzegovina now having to try their luck at qualifying via the play-off stages. Finishing third in their group behind Belgium and shock runners up Wales, this fixture will no doubt be an extremely important one if the nation wish to turn up in France next year. To be honest I can imagine the side were favourites to finish in second position, yet with Wales shocking everybody during the qualifying they themselves no doubt deserve to take that automatic qualification slot. Bosnia-Herzegovina will be favourites for the home win Friday night although will certainly need to play well and score a few as their opponents are by all means easy pushovers and instead are an extremely tough and stubborn side.

Republic of Ireland broke the hearts of so many Scottish folk having defied the odds with a rare win over Germany at home. They actually came close to finishing in an automatic position yet came up short in the away fixture to Poland. Having lost the game 2 – 1 they even managed to have John O’shea sent off with the last kick of the game. It would of also required Scotland to beat Poland in the previous game, yet that man Robert Lewandowski once again broke peoples hearts with a 90th minute equalizer. To be fair if Scotland did win that game it would of possibly been them in this play-off instead of Republic of Ireland and it just goes to show that every fixture in these group stages become more and more important all the way through.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Team News:

Bosnia-Herzegovina will be hoping in form striker Edin Dzeko continues to find the net, with the Manchester City striker who is on loan to Roma in remarkable form. Coach Mehmed Bazdarevic has cut three regulars out of this squad with Marin Ani, Ermin Zec and Rade Kruni all to miss out come Friday night. There are no major injury issues for the team, although Muhamed Besi misses out due to a suspension, yet will be back for the second leg in Dublin.

Republic of Ireland Team News:

Shane Long misses out with a foot injury although could return for the 2nd leg in Dublin. Rob Elliot misses out due to a thigh issue, while Keiren Westwood also has an ankle problem. With Shay Given also out West Ham United’s goalkeeper Darren Randolph will start again after impressing against Germany. With Long out and Jonathan Walters suspended we will likely see Daryl Murphy start up front. It doesn’t stop there, we also see that David Meyler and Paul McShane forced out due to injury. Even though John O’Shea misses the first leg due to a suspension, he may not be fit enough for the second leg on Monday. Alan Judge is also still out with a hamstring pull.

Bosnia-Herzegovina v Republic of Ireland Head to Head Statistics:

The two have only played once against each other in the past, being a few years ago in a friendly match in Dublin. Republic of Ireland did win the game 1 – 0, although since then their opponents have become a far better side in recent years. Bosnia-Herzegovina will be favourites for the home win, as well as likely contenders to progress into the next round.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only the one game played in the past, it isn’t much to go on with just the one goal scored a few years ago.  I am hoping we get a far more exciting game come Friday, as both teams will be going for the positive win in a hope to progress after the send leg in Dublin on Monday. Lets go with the below option.

Bosnia-Herzegovina v Republic of Ireland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

EURO Qualifiers continue with those who finished the group stages in third and needing an extra few games to see if they qualify for France or not next year. This fixture features in form Bosnia-Herzegovina verses Republic of Ireland who themselves recently beat World Champions Germany 1 – 0. The game can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and hopefully will bring plenty of excitement with two nations fighting it out desperately to progress into the main competition next Summer.

Both nations are in form and its hard to imagine how Bosnia-Herzegovina managed to finish behind Wales in the group stages of qualifying. It can only be down to the fact that a few poor results at the start of the qualifying stage, as well as Wales defying all odds and doing remarkably well themselves. Republic of Ireland needed a few lucky results elsewhere to be in this situation, with Scotland losing the win against Poland in the 90th minute a major factor. Don’t get me wrong Republic of Ireland fully deserve to be here, it is no easy feat being Germany even if it was at home in Dublin.

My predictions for this game does favour that of the home win, as Bosnia-Herzegovina have proven not to be an easy team to beat at any location. Having won their last three games they are certainly the favourites to win come Friday night, and for that I plan to take those odds with both teams to score and the home side to win. As my banker I am planning to take in form Edin Dzeko to score anytime during the game, making it his eight goal of the qualifying campaign.
