Scotland v Republic of Ireland Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification, Friday 14th November 2014

Scotland have done ok in their opening three matches of the group and are still right in there with a chance of securing qualification to the 2016 European Championship Finals in France, but would need to win this game on friday night in front of their home fans at the famous Celtic Park Stadium to close the gap on both Poland and Republic of Ireland who are currently 3pts clear of them at the top of the group table.

The Republic of Ireland have had an excellent start to their qualification campaign and with a very good 1-1 result in their last game away against Germany the whole squad will no doubt be confident of adding an important 3pts to their tally come friday night and if recent results between the two nations are anything to go by the visitors do look to have the advantage.

Scotland Team News:

Manager Gordon Strachan will be without the services of Alan Hutton and Craig Bryson for this game as both players continue to receive treatment for respective injury related problems. 24 year old Johnny Russell has been called up to the squad and could be in line for his first ever cap having been in impressive form for his club recently.

Stoke City defender Phil Bardsley lasted just ten minutes of his return to action against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend following a groin strain and is a major doubt as a result and despite having had a few days rest, it doesn’t look as if he will be involved on friday night.

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher looks likely to lead the Scotland attack up front having been in excellent goal scoring form for his club recently and he will be relishing the chance to put one over the Irish come friday night.

Republic of Ireland Team News:

Manager Martin O’Neill no reported injuries or suspensions to his squad and will most likely start with the same eleven players that held Germany to a 1-1 draw over at the Veltins Arena Stadium in Gelsenkirchen. Robbie Keane and Jonathan Walters will spear-head the attack up front for the visitors with support in behind being provided by Aiden McGeady and James McClean.

Scotland v Republic of Ireland Head to Head Statistics:

Friday night’s game from Celtic Park will become the 8th meeting between the two countries over the years and as we can see from our head to head statistics table below it has been the Republic of Ireland who have enjoyed the better results having won 3 times compared to Scotland having won just the once and the remaining game having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

Republic of Ireland: L W W W D

Looking at the recent form statistics, we see that it is the Republic of Ireland who head into this game as the team in form as they have managed to win three of their last five matches played and have lost just once. Scotland have also lost just once, but have only managed two victories from their last five matches.

Scotland v Republic of Ireland Match Betting Odds Market

Scotland are still in with a realistic chance of making it to France 2016, but would need to win this game on Friday night to keep hopes alive as they are currently 3pts behind both Poland and Republic of Ireland in the group table. The online bookmakers seem to think they can get the result needed and currently have the hosts priced up as the clear favourites to win this game with the current best odds of 11/8 with Coral – Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers being available.

The Draw could be a sensible choice here as neither side can really afford to lose this game and with very little between the two countries from what we have seen in their opening three matches, I can definitely see this game having a strong chance of finishing up all square come the full time whistle on Friday night and at a current best price of 2/1 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets for New Customers, this does look the value play.

Republic of Ireland will obviously fancy their chances in this game as with an excellent 1-1 draw last time out against current World Champions Germany, the whole squad will see this as a much easier game and it does surprise me to see their current best price being as big as 23/10 with Bet365 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers, as this also looks good value.

Scotland v Republic of Ireland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Scotland last qualified for the European Championship Finals back in 1996, which is not something that the players or nation’s fans are too happy about, but they do have the squad at the moment to make their first appearance in 18 years and it could be the result of this game that goes a long way to deciding their fate.

Republic of Ireland have only managed to qualify twice for the European Championship Finals. The first coming back 1988 where they finished in a very respectable 5th place and then most recently 2012 where they failed to make it out of the group stage.

Many Republic of Ireland fans believe that their squad at the moment has the quality to make the 2016 Finals in France and with some excellent results from their opening three matches played, everything suggests that they can do so and 3pts from this game would go a long way to achieving that.

The average goals per game statistics are suggesting that we should see between 2 or 3 Goals scored in this game at Celtic Park come Friday night and so the total match goals betting market could see a nice profit return, but my Banker selection is going to be Both Teams to Score as the current odds for this to happen are excellent value.

My Saver is going to be Steven Naismith to Score at Anytime during the game as he was on the score-sheet against Poland last time out and has been on target for his club Everton this season.
