Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Premiership, Sunday 13th September 2015

Sunderland have had another poor start to the season and once again it already looks like they are destined to be involved in the relegation fight for survival. However, on the positive side, they did manage to secure a good 2-2 draw away against Aston Villa last time out and if they can replicate that performance in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon, then they could have every chance of getting at least something out of this game.

Tottenham Hotspur have also started their new season quite badly and it does confuse me to see manager Mauricio Pochettino continue to stick with just one sole striker up front as it has not worked for Spurs for over two season’s now and if Tottenham Hotspur football club are to continue to qualify for places in Europe, then they have to start playing two strikers up front, otherwise I can see this season being one of the worst in Tottenham Hotspur’s history over the last decade.

Sunderland Team News:

Fabio Borini is set to make his second Sunderland debut after rejoining the Black Cats from Liverpool during the transfer window, and he will be joined in Advocaat’s squad by fellow new boy Ola Toivonen.

Jeremain Lens has shrugged off a recent knee problem to pronounce himself fit, but the hosts are without DeAndre Yedlin, who is ineligible to play against his parent club, and injured trio Adam Johnson, Adam Matthews and Jordi Gomez.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Son Heung-min is in line to make his Tottenham debut at the Stadium of Light. The South Korea forward has yet to feature for Spurs since his big-money move from Bayer Leverkusen but scored a hat-trick for his country against Laos and looks set to make the XI.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino said the game could come too soon for fellow new recruit Clinton N’Jie while Christian Eriksen (knee) and Mousa Dembele (foot) are out.

Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday afternoon’s match from the Stadium of Light will become the 104th meeting between the two clubs over the years. Sunderland have managed to secure 35 victories overall with 22 of these having come with home advantage, where as Tottenham Hotspur have managed 40 victories overall with 14 of those having came away from home.

Our head to head statistics table below shows the last five matches played between the two clubs and as we can see it has been Tottenham Hotspur who have enjoyed the better of the results over recent season’s having managed to win 3 times, compared to Sunderland having won just the once.

17/01/15 PRL Tottenham Hotspur – Sunderland 2 : 1
13/09/14 PRL Sunderland – Tottenham Hotspur 2 : 2
07/04/14 PRL Tottenham Hotspur – Sunderland 5 : 1
07/12/13 PRL Sunderland – Tottenham Hotspur 1 : 2
24/07/13 CLF Tottenham Hotspur – Sunderland 1 : 3

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

278 Goals have been scored in the previous 103 matches played between the two clubs over the years, which provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.69.

130 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 51 matches played between the two clubs at the Stadium Of Light which generates us an average goals per game statistic of 2.54.

Both sets of statistics seem to suggest that this game should see between at least 2 or 3 Goals scored on Saturday afternoon and betting markets such as Both Teams to Score, Total Match Goals 2 or 3 and Over 2.5 Goals all look taking a closer look at in the search for value.

Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur Match Betting Odds Market

Sunderland have had a poor start to their new season and it does look like being another very tough road in order to try and avoid relegation again, so no real shock to see the online bookmakers offering up a current best price of 7/2 with Coral – Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw has happened once in the previous seven meetings played, but with both clubs having not been in the best of form at this early stage of the new season, I can definitely see this game having a very real possibility of finishing all square on Sunday afternoon and this can be backed at a current best price of 13/5 with SkyBet – Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account.

Tottenham Hotspur do have the stronger squad on paper, but once again the manager still refuses to play two strikers up front despite having seen it not work now for nearly two season’s and for me I do think that the visitors current best price of 19/20 with Paddy Power – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Free Bets when Registering a New Account does look a bit short considering their recent form.

Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Sunderland really need to start winning their home games if they are to avoid another relegation battle towards the end of next season, but they do face a tough test against a wounded Tottenham Hotspur side who have yet failed to really deliver anything special from their opening matches of the new season.

However, with Spurs looking likely to field two strikers up front for this game with new signing Son Heung-min in line to make his debut, I do think that Spurs will win this game as the Sunderland defence will not be able to keep this Spurs side at bay for long.

Sunderland do have an attacking threat up front themselves though and Defoe will certainly be a test for the Spurs defence and I can see Sunderland probably getting at least one during this match.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be for Tottenham Hotspur to Win as I do feel that with the addition of another striker up front with Harry Kane, this Spurs side should prove too strong for Sunderland.

My First Goalscorer Free Tips is going to be Harry Kane as with the England striker having came on from off the bench to score against San Marino and Switzerland, it does seem he has his mojo back having gone four league matches without scoring.
