Republic of Ireland v Scotland Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification, Saturday 13th June 2015

Republic of Ireland enjoyed a good warm up last Sunday against an England side who have failed to lose in their last nine games now. Although it ended as a bore goalless draw it was still evident that things were looking good for this Ireland side who now face Scotland, another tough in form opponent. Before the England fixture we had seen Republic of Ireland earn a great draw against Poland who top the group ahead of World Cup winners Germany. Republic of Ireland will also fancy their chances of getting some revenge on Saturday, as the away trip against Scotland didn’t end too well with them losing the game 1 – 0. A win will see them climb into third place, which is a qualifying position if they do manage to stay there, although they will still need to face another qualifying game to secure a place in next year EURO Championships.

Scotland have enjoyed a good run of form recently and have won four out of their last five games in all competitions and friendlies. Granted their toughest opponents was that of Saturdays fixture with them now set to face them away from home, something we recently see England struggle with. Scotland are currently on joint points with World Cup winners Germany and only one goal behind on goal difference. They have currently only lost the once during the qualifiers which was against Germany away from home, and with five games left to play it looks promising for Scotland when it comes down to qualifying for next years competition. After this away fixture to Republic of Ireland they then also travel to Georgia which should also be a win, but then we see them face Germany at home which must be a win if they wish to challenge current leaders Poland.

Republic of Ireland Team News:

Saturday could see the return of Robbie Keane after he missed out against England last weekend. Keane was missing due to a domestic club game in the US. Bournemouth midfielder Harry Artur is missing for Ireland as well as Hull City’s defender Paul McShane due to a toe issue. Also in regards to Robbie Keane, questions are being asked if the striker will be risked starting the game after returning recently from a groin strain.

Scotland Team News:

Steven Fletcher could return this Saturday after missing out in the warm up game against Qatar. He is the only injury worry for Scotland who apart from Fletcher look to have a clean bill of health. Gordon Strachan was impressed with the players who played against Qatar and will no doubt have a headache on who to select for the important game against Republic of Ireland this Saturday.

Republic of Ireland v Scotland Head to Head Statistics:

Republic of Ireland v Scotland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

EURO Championship qualifiers this Saturday features Republic of Ireland at home verses Scotland, and all this excitement can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition. Both nations are enjoying some good form coming into this game yet it is Scotland who have had the better of the two with them currently joint second in the group behind Germany. Republic of Ireland are only two points behind their neighbours and a win will see them go above Scotland with four games then left to play.

Both teams played a friendly last weekend with Republic of Ireland facing the tougher being the English who haven’t lost a game since the World Cup in Brazil last year. The game ended goalless which is a better result for the Irish rather than England who have failed to beat them in some time. Scotland faced Qatar at home and only managed a 1 – 0 which should of been better, yet coach Gordon Strachan was happy and it now gives him a selection headache for this fixture on Saturday.

My predictions for this game on Saturday are a tough one as I feel either side could win here and thus improving their table position in the group stages. So for that I guess I may as well back both sides to win in some way or the other. So for the first lets go with a Republic of Ireland 1 – 0 win which always seems to be promising when looking at the home nations, there is rarely more that 1 or 2 goals scored between these two anyway. As for the second. I feel going for a Scotland win with Charlie Adams to score is a rare one, but something at least that is giving some good odds for Saturday.
