Wales v Serbia Preview, World Cup 2018 Qualification, Saturday 12th November 2016

Wales got their qualification to the 2018 World Cup in Russia off to the perfect start in their opening game of the group when beating Moldova 4-0 at home, but since then they have dropped down to third place in the group having only managed a 2-2 draw away against Austria and then a 1-1 draw at home to Georgia.

Both Serbia and Republic of Ireland won their last two matches and as a result Wales now find themselves 2pts behind both nations and a defeat in this game against Serbia on Saturday night could see the Welsh team in a real battle to qualify for the finals.

Serbia head into this game having secured 7pts from their opening three matches played. A 2-2 draw away against Republic of Ireland in their opening match of the group was followed by a 3-0 victory away against Moldova and then a 3-2 win at home against Austria last time out now has Serbia leading the way at the top of the group table and in complete control.

A victory for Serbia in this match would move them 5pts clear of Wales and I fully expect the visitors to provide Wales with a very tough game on Saturday night at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales Team News:

The hosts will be without the services of James Collins and Ben Davies for this match as they continue to receive treatment for respective injury related problems. The good news for Wales fans though is that both Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey will be involved and that at least provides Chris Colemans’ side with a great chance to get the much needed victory in this one.

Serbia Team News:

The visitors have a full squad available and with players like Aleksandar Kolarov, Branislav Ivanovic, Nemanja Matic, Dusan Tadic and Aleksandar Mitrovic who all play for English Premiership league clubs, this fixture looks like being a very exciting match with plenty of goals.

Wales v Serbia Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday night’s game from the Cardiff City Stadium will become the 3rd meeting between the two nations over the years and as we can see below from our head to head statistics table below we see that Serbia have a clear advantage having won both games.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

10 Goals have been scored in the previous 2 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of exactly 5.00.

3 of those Goals have been scored in the 1 previous matches played between the two clubs at the Cardiff City Stadium and this generates us an average goals per game statistic of 3.00.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it would seem to suggest that this game should see at least a couple of goals scored and Total Match Goals 2 or 3 looks to be the best option here.

Wales v Serbia Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Wales will know that if they want to stay in contention of securing qualification to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, they can’t afford to lose this game as Serbia would move into a commanding position at the top of the group and be five points clear of Wales.

So it will be interesting to see if Wales will be prepared to go for the win or sit back in numbers and try to secure a point. A draw wouldn’t be the end of the world for Wales, but it would probably mean that they would need to beat Serbia away in the reverse fixture next year and that will obviously be a very tough ask indeed.

Serbia are currently unbeaten in the group, but have shown a weakness at the back having already conceded 5 goals in those opening three matches played and with Wales having home advantage, I do expect this welsh side to score in this one.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip will be for Both Teams to Score as I fully expect Wales to get at least one goal in this game and with Serbia having a very strong midfield and attack and having scored an impressive 8 goals from their first three matches played in the group, I would expect Serbia to probably just edge this game by the odd goal.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Tosic Zoran Score the 1st Goal in this match as with all three of his goals during this group phase having been the first goal of the game, his odds available do look very generous indeed.
