Poland v Northern Ireland Preview, Euro 2016 Finals, Group C, Sunday 12th June 2016.

Poland did exceptionally well during the qualifying stages enjoying wins against the likes of World Champions Germany. They did however come second best to Germany and only just finished one point behind even though they did have far better goal difference. It could of been a different story if they managed to beat Scotland in one of their remaining games, doing so would of left them top and seeded better in France.

Poland have had six friendlies since their qualification, in which they have won on four occasions scoring plenty of goals. They did lost against The Netherlands at home while then experiencing a goalless draw to Lithuania who they really were expected to beat on home turf. Poland will be the favourites to win against the Irish and looking at the group they will want to make sure they do so with Germany and Ukraine some very tough opponents.

Sadly in my eyes I am not holding out much hope for Northern Ireland in this group. Poland alone will be an extremely tough match, only to then face Ukraine who are a decent side. Then the World Champions Germany who will be favourites to top the group. That said the Irish are a side full of passion and sometimes that can be enough to shock opponents who go out and not know what to expect when they face opponents like this.

It was an incredible qualifying stage for Northern Ireland who managed to come out top of the group even with opponents such as Romania who have always been a tough side. They won the group by one point and deserve a good shot when it comes down to EURO 2016 in France. If Northern Ireland can manage some shock wins against Poland and Ukraine then surely they could potentially unsettle Germany who haven’t been themselves since winning the World Cup back in Brazil.

Poland Team News:

The only player Poland could be missing for this game is Kamil Grosicki who is currently nursing an ankle issue right now. With Poland scoring the most goals during the qualifying stages we all know it is Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski who is a major threat to Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland Team News:

Northern Ireland have a couple of injury worries right now with Kyle Lafferty and Craig Cathcart major doubts to start the game. This will be the nations first tournament since the 1986 World Cup and although they are hoping to impress many critics do not even see Northern Ireland earning a point during the group stages in France.

Poland v Northern Ireland Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battles it is Poland who have been the better side with three wins, a draw and the single loss. In total we have seven games recorded in which it is all equal with three wins each. The draw was in the last time these two nations met, which was back in 2009 during the World Cup qualifiers.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the seven games featured against each other we have seen a total of twenty goals scored. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.8 which is more than achievable then these two sides meet on Sunday. I’d be happy to put my money on the below selection.

Poland v Northern Ireland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Group C action this Sunday is live via BBC 1 High Definition and features Poland verses Northern Ireland. Many critics are saying they can’t even see Ireland winning a point during their group games, buts we do need to remember who managed to beat the likes of Romania to the top of the table during the competitions qualifying stages.

Poland are of course the solid favourites to win this encounter and I can potentially see them giving Germany a run for their money to come top of the group. Ukraine are also a tough side and could surprise all teams in this group, although it is likely to be Poland and Germany to go through to the knock out stages of the competition.

Northern Ireland I would love to see win this match, although we need to be honest here and say Poland are certainly not an easy side to beat these days. Even beating the likes of Germany during their own qualifying stages and coming close to actually coming top of the table ahead of the World Champions. Northern Ireland are in good form, so lets hope the side continue on their good run and give Poland something to worry about come Sunday.

My predictions for this game will be for Poland to of course win the match, and I can also see Robert Lewandowski  scoring at least once during the match. The next I am going to go for is a correct score prediction of Poland to win 3 – 1 on the night. I am hoping to be wrong of course but then also need to be realistic when predicting who will win on the night.
