Germany v Ukraine Preview, Euro 2016 Finals, Group C, Sunday 12th June 2016

Germany head into their opening match of the tournament having not had the best of results in the lead up to these finals as they have lost an incredible three times during their last five matches played !

Defeats against France, England and Slovakia have made quite a few people question their chances at this tournament and although they did bounce back to winning ways in their last match played with a 2-0 victory at home against Hungary, I can’t see the german players being in particularly confident mood come Sunday night.

The Ukraine head into this match having remained unbeaten during their warm up process to this tournament having won an impressive four times without a defeat and as such I would expect the Ukraine players to have much more confidence about getting the right result in this one.

However, before we get too carried away with Ukraine’s recent form, it has to be said that all four of their victories were against teams that are hardly what you could call world beaters and this game will obviously be a much stronger test for them, so it will be interesting to see how they cope up against what is a much stronger side than they have been used to playing recently.

Germany Team News:

Germany will be missing highly rated Marco Reus for these finals as he failed to recover from an injury sustained in the final match of the Bundesliga season. Matt Hummels is also set to miss all of the group stage matches as he struggles to overcome an injury.

Mario Gotze will lead the attack up front with support being provided by the likes of Thomas Muller and Mesut Ozil.

Ukraine Team News:

Ukraine have no reported injuries to contend with and will likely lineup for this game in their familiar 4-2-3-1 formation. Andriy Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka are their key players that make things happen and both players will be in support of their lone striker Roman Zozulya.

Germany v Ukraine Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday night’s group c match will become the 6th meeting between the two nations over the years and as we can see from our head to head statistics table below, it has been Germany who have came out on top having won twice, with all the remaining three matches having finished all square.

11/11/11 FRI Ukraine – Germany 3 : 3
14/11/01 WQE Germany – Ukraine 4 : 1
10/11/01 WQE Ukraine – Germany 1 : 1
07/06/97 WQE Ukraine – Germany 0 : 0
30/04/97 WQE Germany – Ukraine 2 : 0

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

15 Goals have been scored during those previous five matches played and this generates us an average goals per game statistic of exactly 3.00 which suggests we should see at least a couple of goals scored in this game on Sunday night.

Germany v Ukraine Recent Form (Left to Right)

Germany: L L W L W

Ukraine: D W W W W

Surprisingly it is Ukraine who have been in the better recent form having won an impressive four times and drawing once and if we compare that to Germany who have won two and lost three, the Ukraine certainly have a commanding advantage on the recent form statistics.

Germany v Ukraine Match Betting Odds Market

Germany are the clear odds on favourites to win this game with a current best price available of 8/13 with Coral – Bet £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets when Registering a New Account and this does look a bit on the short side considering their recent form in the lead up to these finals.

The Draw is a current best price of 16/5 with BetFred – Bet £10 & Receive £30 Matched Bets when You Register a New Account and I for one will certainly be getting on the draw as my main cover bet for this match.

Ukraine will obviously be in confident mood of causing a bit of an upset in this match as their recent form has been quite impressive and their current best price on offer of 6/1 with Ladbrokes – Receive £50 Free Bets for New Customers Registering an Account, will no doubt have quite a few takers as it does look overpriced in my opinion.

Germany v Ukraine Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Although things have not gone particularly well for Germany in the lead up to these finals, one thing we have seen about Germany over the years is that when it comes to the big tournaments they never fail to deliver and although I didn’t find them that impressive when beating Hungary 2-0 last time out, you would think they would just be good enough to get over the line and win this match on Sunday night.

The Ukraine have nothing to lose in my opinion as nobody really expects them to beat Germany in this match as their current odds of 6/1 from Ladbrokes clearly show, but I have been impressed in the way Ukraine play their matches and if they can get an early goal in this game, I think they can probably get at least draw from this one.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip is going to be for Both Teams to Score as I do believe that the Ukraine can get at least one goal during this match.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Mario Gotze to score the first goal of the game as with him being the main striker for Germany, it should be only a matter of time before he gets a chance to test the Ukraine goalkeeper.
