Manchester United v Manchester City Preview, Premiership, Sunday 12th April 2015

Manchester United will be looking to extend their six game unbeaten run in the league on Sunday afternoon when they play host to arch rivals Manchester City and with the way manager Louis Van Gaal has his side playing at the moment the visitors look to be in for a difficult game.

The ‘Red Devils’ head into this game on the back of a resounding 3-1 victory at home against Aston Villa last weekend with Ander Herrera grabbing a brace and the whole squad will be confident of following that win up come Sunday afternoon.

Manchester City head into the game having suffered a 2-1 defeat away against Crystal Palace last weekend a result that came as a huge reality check for many of the Manchester City players and it does look like manager Manuel Pellegrini could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season and another defeat in this game would not do his future prospects at the club any good at all.

Manchester United Team News:

Luke Shaw is unavailable for the hosts as he suffers from a hamstring injury and he will be joined on the sidelines by Jonny Evans who is suspended and Robin Van Persie who despite having returned back to training after a lengthy injury is still far from match fit. Chris Smalling is a doubt due to illness and midfielder Andreas Pereira is away representing the Brazil Under-20’s.

Manchester City Team News:

Wilfried Bony has an ankle problem and will miss this game along with fellow striker Stevan Jovetic who is suffering from a knee problem and they will be joined on the sidelines by defender Dedryck Boyata who also has a knee problem. Skipper Vincent Kompany is a major doubt for the visitors due to a hamstring pull and will have to under take a late fitness test to see if he can be involved.

Manchester United v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday afternoon’s game from Old Trafford will become the 145th meeting between the two clubs over the years. Manchester United have won 56 times overall, with 30 of those having came at the Theatre of Dreams. Manchester City in contrast have won 43 times overall, with just 18 of those having came at Old Traford.

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics show Manchester City with a significant advantage over recent season’s having won 4 times with Manchester Untied having only won just the 1.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

406 Goals have been scored in the previous 144 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.82.

201 of those Goals have came in the 70 previous matches played at Old Traford and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.87.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game should see at least a couple of goals scored as there has only been one game having seen less than two goals scored in the last five meetings.

Manchester United v Manchester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

United are in excellent form at the moment and will see this game on Sunday afternoon as a real chance to get back some much needed bragging rights as with Manchester City having won the last four meetings their fans have had plenty to sing about.

City are not in the best of form either as they prepare for this one as with a shock 2-1 defeat away against Crystal Palace last weekend and further defeat away against Burnley prior to that, things do look very much in disarray and I would be surprised to see Manuel Pellegrini still at the club at the start of the new season as he has not delivered anything of much worth this season at all.

The average goals per game statistics are expecting this match to see a few goals scored and with both clubs no stranger to finding the net this season this does look likely.

Sergio Aguero has scored four goals in his last three Premier League matches against Manchester United and at a current best price of around 11/2 to open up the scoring this does look good value.

Edin Dzeko has scored four goals against United and all four of those have came at Old Trafford so he could also attract some interest from the punters at a best price of around 15/2 with Paddy Power.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker for this game is going to be for the match to see Over 2.5 Goals grace the back of the nets as I am fully expecting both clubs to go all out for the win on Sunday afternoon.

My Saver is going to be Wayne Rooney to Score First Goal of the Match as he does have a habit of getting on the score-sheet when playing against Manchester City and in the kind of form he is in currently, he does look the more likely to be the one celebrating the first goal of the game.
