Levante v Malaga Preview, Primera La Liga, Sunday 11th January 2014

Levante are currently in thirteenth position in the La Liga joint on points with Sundays opponents Malaga, although they have a worse goal difference a win here could see them safely away from the relegation battle happening below them. There are only four points between Levante and eighteenth placed Real Valladolid so a win is a must if they are to stay in this division for next year. The last two league games have come at a loss and they will be looking to bounce back as in the next few weeks have a run of hard games with facing the likes of Barcelona and Sevilla.

November was a worrying month for twelfth placed Malaga who found themselves lucky against bottom place Real Betis. A 90th minute winner was needed to secure all 3 points for the home side and a different result could of seen them in the relegation battle now rather than later. Malaga then suffered two loses before a run of positive results before eventually losing to title chasing Atletico Madrid who were forced to fight for their goal which eventually came in the 70th minute with a Koke strike. Malaga maybe away for Sundays game but they will certainly fancy their chances as they look to make their climb up the league for the 2nd half of the season.

Levante v Malaga Team News

Levante Team News:

Levante head into this match with a number of key players injured. The first is defender David Navarro who has featured 13 times this season and is missing with a calf strain he picked up in training at the end of December. We also see Sergio Pinto missing with a thigh strain also picked up in December after the loss to Atletico Madrid. Aloys Nong (hamstring) and Babacar Diawara (Abdominal Strain) are also missing due to December injuries.

Malaga Team News:

Malaga’s only injury accounted for is Spanish defender Casado with crucial knee ligaments and sadly hasn’t featured at all this season. Malaga are however missing two key defenders for this game on Sunday, the first being Argentine Marcos Angeleri and fellow center back Antunes who is also out due to suspension.

Levante v Malaga Head to Head Statistics

We can see here that in the last 5 head to head statistics it is Malaga who are the better side and nothing is too different in the 9 games total we have on record. With Malaga winning 6 to Levante’s 3 and zero draws we don’t have too many games to go on. Malaga have won 2 times away from home in the past so we know they can achieve such a result.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 9 games played in the past we have seen a total of 19 goals scored, which gives us an average of 2.1 goals per game. Yet looking at the last 5 games played it is actually 3 goals per game which should give you a better idea on how many goals could be scored on Sunday night between these two.

Levante v Malaga Recent Form (Left to Right)

Levante: D L L W W

Malaga: L W D W D

On paper and in the last 5 games played we can see that it is away side Malaga who are the team in slightly better form. Yet in the La Liga they both sit on level points and occupy the middle of the table together. Malaga also have a better goal difference even though they themselves are on -4.

Levante v Malaga Match Betting Odds Market.

Levante are only the favourites here due to being at home, their form however isn’t as good as Malaga which has been noted by the bookmakers. The best possible odds are currently found here @ 17/10 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw should be considered here even though it has never happened before between the two. Bookmakers are setting the odds @ 9/4 with Ladbrokes – £30 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

Malaga are a good bet here being the side in better form recently, although they are just behind in regards to favourites I still feel it will be their day after the 90 minutes. Best odds are coming in @ 19/10 with Ladbrokes – £30 Free Bets when Registering a New Account.

Levante v Malaga Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Taking everything into account I feel that Malaga will come out victors on Sunday night, in recent weeks they have been the better side in form and even gave title chasing Atletico Madrid a run for their money at home. Atletico Madrid did eventually win the game however they were seriously frustrated by Malaga for 70 minutes where midfield star and Manchester United target Koke grabbed the winner.

Levante themselves will be fighting for the win as it would be them the more likely to struggle for the rest of the season and with being only 4 points adrift the relegation zone they will feel it is a battle they do not want to experience. If Malaga did lose I still do not see them going down even though they do have a run of hard games coming up soon. The worst of them will be La Liga leaders Barcelona away from home and face a tough battle to keep any potential goals being scored against them, especially now super star Lionel Messi is back after injury and already amongst the goals.

My predictions for Sundays game will be for both teams to score and for Malaga to win the game after 90 minutes, with the other being a score draw. Although a draw has never been seen between these two clubs there is always a first time for everything and with both teams looking to fight for the much needed win they could eventually cancel themselves out.
