Gibraltar v Scotland Preview, Euro 2016 Qualification, Sunday 11th October 2015.

It comes as no surprise seeing Gibraltar at the bottom of Group D in this years EURO Championship Qualifiers, with them being a very new international team and such a small country, it will no doubt be extremely hard and take time for them to earn their first win in an international competition. In the countries fourteen games played they have only managed to win the once, which was at home to Malta who are also considered a poor side. With a draw against Estonia also considered a result, the other twelve games have all ended in rather heavy defeats, conceding fifty goals in the nine EURO Championship Qualifying games played, having also only scored twice. Their last game is at home to Scotland who are currently not in the best of form having only won once in their last five games played.

Scotland have now conceded defeat as a last minute equalizer scored against them by Poland means they can no longer qualify for the competition in France next year. It is a massive blow especially as Scotland were high up the table for so long, and it can only be blamed on their last four games in which they should of at least won two to three of them. Granted at home against Germany they were never expected to win, and only sadly lost the game due to a poor defence as the game ended 3 – 2 in the World Champions favour. If they did beat Poland on Thursday they would of still needed Republic of Ireland to also beat them in Poland, and although that could still be the case it would now only benefit the Irish with an automatic qualification place.

Gibraltar Team News:

Gibraltar are still looking to earn their first group point, and if they can stay strong at the back then a potential draw could be on the cards. Coach Jeff Wood and his players have consistently showed a determination to be a potential thorn in any teams side, yet always come up short and it shows which a terrible goal difference of -48. Gibraltar have still yet to score at home in a competitive match, can Sundays game be any different?

Scotland Team News:

I can imagine Scotland coach Gordon Strachan plans to make a number of changes to his side for the teams last EURO Champions qualifying match. We could see Championship player of the month Jordan Rhodes grab a start as well as Graham Dorrans and Christophe Berra.

Gibraltar v Scotland Head to Head Statistics:

With Gibraltar being a very new national team there is never going to be a large number of appearances between the two teams. The two nations have only met once which was back in March of this year when the two played in Scotland. Gibraltar have yet to win or draw a competitive match and have still yet to score at home in the competition. They have however scored against Scotland, which makes up 50% of their goals scored throughout the qualifiers.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only one game played I would usually say the goals per game average 7 would be slightly unfair, but with that number of goals being scored often against Gibraltar you could very well be confident enough of using that as a betting selection. However with Scotland being away I’d be more inclined to go for the below selection for Sundays game.

Gibraltar v Scotland Recent Form (Left to Right)

Gibraltar: L L L L L

Scotland: D L L D W

Scotland’s winning form has been destroyed in recent months which is no doubt the reason why they now miss out on the main competition in France next year. That said Scotland are of course the favourites to win this match, making it ten straight loses in the competition for Gibraltar.

Gibraltar v Scotland Match Betting Odds Market

Gibraltar have yet to win in a competitive game, and I feel Sundays home event is no exception. If Gibraltar can plug that gap at the back then the best they could hope for is a draw come Sunday. Best odds on the home nation actually winning a game can be seen coming in here @ 66/1 with Coral – Bet £5 & Get £20 Free when Registering a New Account.

The Draw is the best Gibraltar could hope for on Sunday, which would be their first point in the qualifying stages. They have finished bottom of the group as predicted, and the odds for them to complete ten loses is the far more likely. Scotland may come into this last group game as favourites, but have still recently found huge disappointment having now failed to qualify for the main competition in France next year. Gibraltar v Scotland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

International football on Sunday comes live on Sky Sports 1 High definition, and features home nation Gibraltar verses Scotland who have recently had to deal with the disappointment of not qualifying. Gibraltar pretty much knew qualifying would be a long shot, and  have now come to realise even earning a point in the competition would be seen as a huge win. Could they grab their first point against this down trodden Scotland side? Or finish the qualifying stages with a 100% loss record?

Scotland have failed to qualify and after such an impressive start to the competition you can’t help but feel sorry for them as they crashed out with a cruel equalizer from Poland Thursday night. If it stayed 2 – 1 to Scotland then they would of been in with a chance, but would of still needed the Republic of Ireland to do a solid job in Poland on Sunday. That said Scotland will be more likely to field a weaker side, allowing potential starts for a few fringe players. One thing Strachan will insist on, is to not allow Gibraltar to make a joke of Scotland and earn their first point or points.

My prediction for Sundays game will of course back that of Scotland to win one way or the other, and with one of them I do plan to back that of Steven Naismith to score at some point. The other I am going for is a complete dare, and the odds of it actually happening will be ridiculous. For that I am going to back Scotland to win after coming from behind! I know crazy right, but surely Gibraltar will finish the group stage at least scoring one goal at home? The first I plan to back is Scotland to win with Steven Naismith to also score at some point.
