Leicester City v Leeds United Preview, English Championship, Sunday 11th August 2013

Leicester City have had a great start to the 2013/2014 campaign having won their first league game and their Capital One Cup 1st round 2 – 1, and they look to have an easy 2nd round draw against Carlisle away from home. Leicester boss Nigel Pearson has been extremely happy with his sides winning performances but the Capital Cup game against Wycombe didn’t come easy as they had to work hard having only scored by a David Nugent penalty before Wycombe leveled half way through the first half with a Jo Kuffour effort. But then in the 95th minute there came a winner with Sean St Ledger grabbing his first goal of the season in dramatic style.

What a great start for Brian McDermott’s Leeds United with winning both their opening league game 2 – 1 and also the exciting win in the Capital One Cup 2 – 1 against Chesterfield where they had to fight back from a goal down to eventually win at Elland Road. Leeds have never lost an opening game in the League Cup to date but that tremendous record nearly was lost until 2 quick goals by Michael Brown with a 28th minute screamer from 20 years and Dominic Ploeon 18 yard shot which crept into the bottom left corner securing Leeds the win.

Leicester City v Leeds United Team News

Leicester City Team News:

Nigel Pearson hasn’t been at all busy this summer in the transfer market seeing only one arrival, the left back Zoumana Bakayogo from League One outfit Tranmere Rovers in a free transfer, but that has not seen players go out the other way with 6 people leaving the club on free transfers of who were no longer needed. With Sean St Ledger entering the final 12 months of his contract Foxes boss will not be worried as the Republic of Ireland International clearly wants to stay and extend his contract. But having been told at the end of last season he was no longer needed by the club because he was surplus to requirements he has still been an integral part of Pearson’s starting line up.

Leeds United  Team News:

Leeds United have at least been a little more busy when it comes down to the transfer market seeing 4 new faces join the ranks at Elland road, with the only one costing anything being Luke Murphy from Crewe Alexandra for 1 million. With Noel Hunt and Matt Smith joining on free transfers from Reading and Oldham Athletic the other new name is Under18 promotion Simon Lenighan. Manager Brian McDermott has admitted he would still like to add another name to the team but is finding it hard to balance the books and would more likely have to sell before bringing in a new player. Which is unlikely as 9 people have already left the club during the summer with none of them bringing in any funds.
