Republic Ireland v Austria Preview, World Cup 2018 Qualification, 11th June 2017

Republic of Ireland have had a very good start to their world cup finals qualification and currently occupy second place in the group d table with 11pts after five matches played.

The hosts have remained unbeaten as of yet, having scored seven and conceded just three and with home advantage on Sunday evening, they will be confident of winning this one and taking a big step towards securing qualification to the finals in Russia next summer.

Austria are still in with a chance of making it through to the finals, but would need to win this game in order to make that happen as with the visitors currently place in 4th position of the group d table on 7pts, a defeat in this game could see them drop out of the running.

The visitors have won two, drawn one and lost two of their opening five games played and would need to be at their very best on Friday night to keep hopes alive of making it to Russia next summer.

Republic Ireland Team News:

Strikers Shane Long and David McGoldrick will miss the clash against Austria as will Seamus Coleman, who suffered a horrendous double leg fracture against Wales in March.

Cyrus Christie is set to deputise for the Everton full-back, while Jonathan Walters seems likely to get the nod in attack.

Austria Team News:

Meanwhile, Koller is set to be without several key men for the trip to Dublin. Red Bull Salzburg defender Andreas Ulmer is getting married this weekend and will miss the clash, while Marko Arnautovic and Stefan Ilsanker are suspended.

Marc Janko and Marcel Sabitzer will miss the game through injury.

Republic Ireland v Austria Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday evening’s game from the Aviva Stadium will become the 10th meeting between the two nations over the years and as we can see from our head to head statistics table below which shows the previous five matches played between the two countries we see that Austria have a clear advantage having won 3, compared to Republic Ireland who have managed to win just 1, with the remaining match having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

30 Goals have been scored in the previous 9 meetings between the two nations and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 3.33.

18 of those Goals have been scored in the 4 previous matches played between the two nations at the Aviva Stadium and this generates us an average goals per game statistic of exactly 4.50.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it would seem to suggest that this game should not see too many goals scored on Friday night and the betting market Total Match Goals Scored Over 2.5 looks a good choice here.

Republic Ireland v Austria Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

The Republic of Ireland should prove too strong for Austria in this one as with a talented squad and home advantage the Austrian side will find this game very difficult on Sunday evening.

However, Austria do head into this game in good form and we have already seen a couple of shocks over the past few days in this tournament so it would be foolish to write the visitors off here.

As such the sensible option does seem to be both teams to score as with the average goals per game statistics suggesting this game should see at least a few goals, I can see this game ending up in either a 2-2 draw or 2-1 either way on the night.

Onto some predictions then and my Banker Free Tip will be for Both Teams to Score as with Austria needing to win the game to stand any real hope of making the finals in Russia next summer, I would expect the to go for it in this game and with the hosts unbeaten and looking very good to qualify, they should get at least one or two in this one.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip will be for Jonathan Walters to Score the 1st Goal in this match as he certainly has the ability to score goals in this tournament and will be handfull for the Austrian defence to deal with.
