Wales v Slovakia Preview, Euro 2016 Finals, Group B, Saturday 11th June 2016.

Since the qualifying stages of the competition Wales haven’t seemed to have performed too well having lost three and drawing the other of their four friendlies. With loses to The Netherlands, Ukraine and Sweden things are not exactly looking bright for Wales who face tough opposition in Group B. Slovakia themselves will be a tough fixture only to then face stronger sides such as Russia and local rivals England.

I can’t see Wales progressing beyond the group stages of this competition in France with England and Russia the likely favourites to progress. Yet could we see a repeat of their form during the qualifiers where we did actually see Wales give the likes of Belgium a run for their money having only finished two points behind them after the ten games. They finished four points clear of Bosnia-Herzegovina so I kind of was expecting so much more in the nations recent friendly loses.

Slovakia themselves are a good side who also did well during the competitions qualifying stages, having finished 2nd behind Spain and also the only side in Group C to beat the Spaniards. Something that hasn’t been achieved in some time considering just how good Spain are. Slovakia have had seven friendly fixtures since qualifying and in doing so have done very well beating the likes of World Champions Germany in the process.

Four wins and three draws have been recorded and although they did exceptionally well against the Germans, they haven’t beaten anyone even close to Germany’s standards and even come up short against the likes of Latvia, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. They should beat Wales on Saturday and are certainly in my eyes the favourites to take all of the points which will then leave them in a good position to face England and Russia in their remaining two games.

Wales Team News:

Wales super star Gareth Bale has been exceptional during the qualifying stages having helped his country with seven special goals, and will no doubt be starting the match come Saturday. Wales have been missing Hal Robson-Kanu for their four friendly fixtures, yet is back from injury and available to start. Joe Allen is reported to have recovered from a knee injury while David Vaughan could be a doubt due to fitness.

Slovakia Team News:

Slovakia don’t have many injury worries with their only doubt being Tomas Hubocan who plays at left-back. He himself has missed the nations last three fixtures due to a toe injury. Dusan Svento will no doubt once again step in and replace the defender if needed.

Wales v Slovakia Head to Head Statistics:

The two nations have only met twice in the past with both sides enjoying a massive away win with plenty of goals scored. It has nearly been ten years since the two have met and this time it will be Slovakia who are set as the bookmakers favourites due to a far better form coming into this game.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the two games played against each other we have seen a massive tally of 13 goals scored. Now although this is going to give us a goals per game average of 6.5 I certainly cannot predict more of the same come Saturday night. I’d be more inclined to take the below option for this game with it being far more realistic.

Wales v Slovakia Recent Form (Left to Right)

Wales: L L D L W

Slovakia: D W W D D

Slovakia are the far better team in form right now with Wales failing to continue the good form they experienced during the qualifying stages. Were as Slovakia have continued their good qualifying round and even beaten the likes of Germany recently. Slovakia are the slight favourites to win this game and would be my selection.

Wales v Slovakia Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

EURO 2016 France continues this Saturday with one of our own having done so well to actually qualify. Wales have not played in a competitive competition in nearly fifty years and will be keen to show the world just what they can do come Saturday evening. Wales lost just the once during the qualifying stages and also only conceded four goals during the ten qualifying fixtures. Yet somehow come into this match having lost 3 – 0 to Sweden in a friendly match recently.

It wasn’t the ideal result to concede against Sweden and we can only hope it doesn’t effect the Welsh players confidence as they look to impress in France against some very tough opposition. If they do manage a win on Saturday night it will leave them in a good position to then face Russia and local rivals England in their remaining two matches of the group stage.

Slovakia themselves have also done well during the qualifying stages having beaten the likes of Spain who did eventually finish above them in the group and winning it. Slovakia did however come second having only lost twice and have since then won four and drawn three of their seven friendly fixtures. They are the bookmakers slight favourites to win Saturday evening and unless Wales do rekindle their form it could be an easy match for the Slovakian’s.

My predictions for this game is leaning more towards a draw Saturday night and I do feel both sides will score on the night. Previously games a fair while back have seen plenty of goals scored, although I for one can only guess at a maximum of four. My banker will be for both teams to score in the match and of course for the result to end as a draw. My second I am fancying the correct score draw of 2 – 2, which I do feel also has some solid chances of coming in come Saturday.
