Reading v Crystal Palace Preview, FA Cup Quarter Final, Friday 11th March 2016.

After knocking out Premiership side West Bromwich Albion last month we did see Championship side Reading go on to win a couple of league games and then draw to Fulham. But have since then lost to Huddersfield Town who were until recently only a few points away from the relegation battle and will no doubt have some affect on the teams confidence coming into this quarter final encounter.

Understandably we do see Crystal Palace as favourites even though they are away from home, yet I can also see Reading stepping up a gear in hopes of some FA Cup glory. As for the Championships themselves they are only nine points in front of Rotherham United who currently sit in eighteenth and potential candidates for relegation.

Crystal Palace may well be favourites but looking at their current results in the Premier League you cant help but be worried for the club having now lost eight league games since Christmas and also failing to win any. The only games the club have managed to win are in the FA Cup having knocked out tough sides such as Southampton, Stoke City and more recently Tottenham Hotspurs.

Palace have some tough games coming up and although their game against Manchester United has been postponed they still face top of the league Leicester City and in form West Ham United. Norwich City should see the club earn three points and it will be much needed as they then travel to Arsenal and unlikely to trouble to title contenders.

Reading Team News:

Reading could be without defender Paul McShane again after missing games against Fulham and Huddersfield Town and will no doubt have a fitness test to assess. Matej Vydra eventually didn’t make the bench after returning from a hamstring injury and there is still no news if the clubs top scorer will feature in this FA Cup tie.

Crystal Palace Team News:

Wayne Hennessey failed to recover in time to face Liverpool last weekend and is also still a doubt to face Reading on Friday night in this FA Cup quarter final. It was Alex McCarthy’s fault that lead to Liverpool taking the lead as he slipped and gave the ball away to Firmino who grabbed the equalizer. Play-maker Cabaye is a doubt for the game also after being forced off the pitch against Liverpool with a knock.

Chamakh has also been ruled out with a hip injury and will face some time out as he recovers. James McArthur has an ankle injury and currently out for some time while striker Connor Wickham could return after missing the game against Liverpool last weekend.

Reading v Crystal Palace Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battlers between these two clubs we have seen Reading come out on top with two wins and three draws. It has been a number of years since the two met with Palace having earned promotion at the end of the 2012 season. In total we have 19 games recorded with Reading again coming out on top with 8 wins, 6 draws and 5 loses.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 19 games played over the years we have seen a total of 65 goals scored which is going to give us an average of 3.4 goals per game, and looking above we can say they it is usually a reasonably high scoring game when the two meet. However for this game I feel the below selection is a more acceptable prediction for Fridays game.

Crystal Palace: L D L W L

Neither sides are currently in good form in their leagues coming into this game and only show promise when playing their FA Cup ties. Both clubs have knocked out some impressive opponents in recent months and will no doubt be hungry on Friday when the two meet in hopes of a semi final draw. Crystal Palace are the favourites to win the game, but lets not dismiss Readings chances just yet.

Crystal Palace are the slight favourites to win this game which can be understandable considering the teams they have so far knocked out of the competition. Reading v Crystal Palace Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup Quarter Final action this Friday can be seen live via BBC One and of course in High Definition and witnesses two clubs who are in such bad league form they could potentially be relegated if they don’t start to show improvement and start earning points. Strangely however they both are in exceptional form when playing in the FA Cup with Reading knocking out West Brom and Palace making sure Tottenham Hotspurs, Southampton and Stoke City go no further.

Reading have a few tough games coming up with the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff City both gunning for promotion, although they do have a good opportunity against Nottingham Forest who sit just one place above and one point ahead. Although Reading are in 14th there is only nine points between them and Rotherham United who currently occupy that third relegation slot.

Crystal Palace are also in the same predicament and have failed to win a Premiership game this year which has seen them slowing decline down the table into fifteenth and now face a struggle to avoid the relegation battle as other teams around them manage to earn points here and there. There is still nine points between them and Norwich City who are in eighteenth, but that could change in the coming games when the two meet.

Could Crystal Palace win the FA Cup this year? There are still some tough teams in the competition with the likes of title chasing Arsenal who face Watford at The Emirates after smashing Hull City 4 – 0 recently. Manchester United host West Ham United which is set to be an epic encounter, while Premier League champions Chelsea travel to Everton in hopes of at least winning something this year.

My predictions for this game however will need to be based mainly off of statistics but then that would mean I would be backing Reading for the win with them having had the better results between the two. But that could be dangerous, so instead I feel going for two to three goals scored on the night could be a better option even though the goals per game average is over three.

My second prediction for this fixture will be the back the two to draw come 90 minutes, although part of me wants to go out and predict a correct score of some sorts so why not! For this correct score bet I feel going for a 1 – 1 could be good and realistic, yet 2 – 2 and 3 – 3 has also been seen within the last five times featured against each other. But anyway lets go for a 1 – 1 correct score bet as the odds are good right now.
