Cardiff City v Aston Villa Preview, Premiership, Tuesday 11th February 2014

Cardiff City’s form has been up and down recently under new manager Ole Solskjaer but we must remember the Norwegian has signed some new talent during the January transfer window and they will of course need time to gel together. A nice win at home to Norwich City see new signing Kenwyne  Jones score on his debut in what turned out to be the winning goal with a 2 – 1 ending result. Manchester Uniteds young winger Wilfred Zaha has also featured in both of Cardiff’s games since his loan deadline day signing.

Aston Villa head into this game on Tuesday on the back of two defeats with the more recent an away loss to relegation struggling side West Ham United. That 2 – 0 loss allowed The Hammers to close to gap between them and Villa to just three points also also left Aston Villa only four points away from being in the bottom three. Before their two loses we  did see Villa hole Liverpool to a 2 – 2 draw at Anfield and then went on to beat West Brom in an epic game of seven goals where Aston Villa finished the match at home 4 – 3.

Cardiff City Team News:

Cardiff City only have a couple of injuries which see Mark Hudson out nursing a hamstring injury and then we have Andrew Taylor also missing the game after taking a knock. Cardiff City made a few signings during the transfer window and no doubt we will see the Brazilian Fabio start again in what will be a very important game on Tuesday.

Aston Villa Team News:

Aston Villa do have their fair share of injury worries with club captain Ron Vlaar still missing with a hamstring injury. Charles N’Zogbia is also missing with a calf strain while we also see two long term injuries Jores Okore out with crucial knee ligament damage and Libor Kozak out with a broken leg.

Cardiff City v Aston Villa Head to Head Statistics:

This will only be the 3rd time these two have met in 50 years and in the last 5 head to heads we can see that Aston Villa are the better side. In total there has been 32 games recorded where Aston Villa have won 16 to Cardiff City’s 13 with only 3 games drawn.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In these 32 games played in the past we can see that there has been a total of 80 goals scored. This is giving us an average of 2.5 goals per game. Which by looking at the last 5 head to heads it is pretty much spot on if you plan to play the total goals game.

Cardiff City v Aston Villa Recent Form (Left to Right)

Cardiff City: L W L W L

Aston Villa: L L W D L

In the last 5 games in all competitions we can see the Welsh side just slightly edge forward in regards to form. Although they are just 1 point from being bottom of the Premiership table. Aston Villa are 12th but incredibly enough there is only 6 points between both sides coming into this match on Tuesday.

Aston Villa are of course away from home but should be seen as the stronger side. But due to a couple of bad results recently the bookmakers are seeing their opponents as likely winners on Tuesday. The best current odds are set here @ 21/10 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers).

Cardiff City v Aston Villa Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With everything taken into account I can’t help but feel Tuesday nights game will end in Cardiff City’s favor. With their recent signings already settling in we can only hope the away loss to local rivals Swansea City was a small blip in their bid to battle out of the relegation zone.

Kenwyne Jones has settled already and bagged himself a goal on his debut against Norwich City and then we have Fabio and Zaya who both signed from Manchester United close to deadline day in a permanent and loan deal respectively. Three other of Solskjaer’s signings are fellow Norwegians Magnus Eikrem, Mats Daehli and Jo Berget who have totaled 3 games between them with Berget not yet featuring.

So lets get down to some predictions for Tuesdays game, personally I can see Cardiff City winning this one and feel Wilfred Zaya will play a huge part in this result. Although he could score I am thinking more for his assists to the tall and powerful Kenwyne Jones who himself signed in a swap deal from Stoke City. So lets go for Jones to score and Cardiff to win with the other a total match goals of 2 to 3 in the 90 minutes.
