Manchester United v Swansea City Preview, Premiership, Saturday 11th January 2014

If Manchester United fans were having any reservations about David Moyes not being good enough to manage their club in recent months, the midweek defeat against Sunderland in the League Cup was surely the icing on the cake as I have seen countless numbers of United fans going public with their dissatisfaction and it does seem that they have had enough and if David Moyes was to lose this game on Saturday evening, then surely it has be time for the previous Everton manager to start packing his bags.

Swansea City are not having a great season by their standards, but they will have taken an abundance of confidence from the victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup last weekend and manager Michael Laudrup and his players will obviously believe they can put in a repeat of last weekend’s performance and win this game.

Manchester United Team News:

Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Fellaini, Nani and Robin Van Persie all remain unavailable for the hosts as they continue to receive treatment for respective injury problems. Fabio da Silva is also missing as he serves a suspension and both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney will undergo a late fitness test to see if they can be involved.

Swansea City Team News:

Michel Vorm, Garry Monk, Michu, Nathan Dyer, Pablo Hernandez and Roland Lamah will all be unavailable for the visitors as they all continue to recover from respective injuries.

Manchester United v Swansea City Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday evening’s game from Old Trafford Stadium will become just the 11th meeting between the two clubs over the years, of which Manchester United have won 6 times (4 at Old Trafford Stadium), Swansea City have won 2 times (1 at Old Trafford Stadium) and there has been 2 Draws (0 at Old Trafford Stadium).

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics show Manchester United with a clear advantage having won 3 times with Hull City having won 1 and the other game having finished level.

NB: These two sides only played each other in the FA Cup midweek at Old Trafford Stadium in which Swansea City won the game 1-2.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

22 goals have been scored in the previous 10 games played between the two clubs which provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.20 and with there having been (12 at the KC Stadium) from the 5 matches played, this gives us an average goals per game statistic of 2.40, which would indicate this game on Saturday evening should see at least a couple of goals scored.

Manchester United v Swansea City Recent Form (Left to Right)

Manchester United: W W W L L

Manchester United have the clear advantage on the recent form statistics having managed to win 3 and lose 2 of their previous 5 matches played. Swansea City have struggled having managed just 1 victory from their last 5 games of which they have lost 3.

Manchester United v Swansea City Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester United are the clear odds on favourites to win this game on Saturday evening despite the club having had probably their worse first half of the season in the last couple of decades, but their odds of 8/15 with BetVictor (£25 Free Bets for New Customers), does seem very short indeed for a side that is obviously having major problems behind closed doors.

The Draw could see some action from punters as Swansea City are always a difficult side to beat and with United conceding goals left, right and center at the moment, this game could very easily end up all square come the full time whistle and at a current best price of 7/2 with Stan James (£10 Free Bets for New Customers) it makes sense to have a small saver bet on this at what are very generous odds.

Swansea City pulled of a major shock last weekend when dumping Manchester United out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford and I don’t see any valid reason why they can’t do it again in this match despite the online bookmakers offering up huge odds of 6/1 with Coral (£50 Free Bets for New Customers) for Michael Laudrup’s side to repeat history in what will be less than a week.

Manchester United v Swansea City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

This surely has to be last chance saloon for United boss David Moyes as another defeat in this game would surely see him summoned to the board of directors office and the pressure is really on here for the 50 year old Scotsman.

However, I do believe Manchester United will win this game as with Swansea City having numerous injuries to some of their key players, their current squad just doesn’t look strong enough for me to be able to repeat what they did last weekend and win a second time at Old Trafford in less than a week.

The goal statistics are suggesting this game should see at least a couple of goals scored on Saturday evening, so betting markets like Both Teams to Score, Total Match Goals and Anytime Goalscorer’s could all be worth a closer look in what should result in a much needed victory for David Moyes and his players.
