Bordeaux v Monaco Preview, Ligue 1, Saturday 10th August 2013

Bordeaux had great success last year after beating Evian 3-2 in Coupe de France Cup, which is their first piece of silverware in 26 years and it will be good news for the club knowing that key man and prolific striker Cheick Diabate extended his contract by another year. The 25 year old has been with the club since 2007  and has strongly established himself scoring an incredible 18 goals in all competitions last year and with his contract now ending in 2016 it will make fans happy knowing they will not lose him any time soon.

Monaco were recently promoted last year and with their now rich owners have managed to secure some huge names in the summer but regardless of the big name signings manager Claudio Ranieri has played down his teams title chances saying it is far to early to be considered Ligue 1 winner favourites. With their last pre-season friendly ending with the destruction of a young Spurs side 5-2 it shows that it hasn’t taken long for new boy Falcao to find his shooting boots after hitting a brace.

Bordeaux v Monaco Team News

Bordeaux Team News:

Not so busy for Bordeaux manager Francis Gillot in the transfer market seeing only 4 new additions to the squad with 2 of them being promoted from the youth system, apart from that the only paid transfer was that of Lucas Orban from Argentina outfit Atletico Tigre for a small £3 million fee. Joining him also is Jeremie Brechet from Ligue 2 side Troyes AC on a free transfer and Gillot is hoping to add the 33 year old’s experience to his squad. With 5 players returning from loan Bordeaux have also seen 7 players leave the club with 2 of them also loan players.

Monaco Team News:

Its incredible to think just how much Monaco have spent in this transfer window with the estimate being roughly £130 million with a huge chunk of that being the renowned £52.8 million transfer fee for Falcao who was recently in the papers for allegedly lying about his age. In total Ranieri has signed 11 new players with the likes of James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho and Ricardo Carvalho was was recently let go by Real Madrid on a free transfer. Monaco have also seen 6 players return from loan duty and seen 13 players leave the club on the cheap or for free transfers which have made way for this new exciting team.

Who Has The Advantage?

Monaco have the slight advantage here in regards to the head to head stats and with their new signings you would be quite positive seeing them win here.

Average Goals Per Game?

With an average of 1.6 goals per game you wouldn’t usually be expecting too much of a scoring game, but I feel with huge talents that Monaco now have up front you could possibly see a few ripple the new come Saturday.
