Bayern Munich v Manchester City Preview, Champions League, Tuesday 10th December 2013

Beware the goal machine that is known as Bayern Munich after the complete demolition of Werder Bremen as Bayern Munich stun them for 7 goals away from home. You have to sit back and admire Bayern Munich as they sit atop the Bundesliga with only 4 points away from a possible maximum of 45. Not only that they also have an incredible goal difference of +32 from 15 games played, nearly doubling their closest challengers Bayer Leverkusen who themselves have a respectable +18. Pep Guardiola has managed some special sides in his time as a manager but he has admitted he is ever so proud to be at Bayern Munich after they record such a huge win after seeing players such as Franck Ribery score 2 lovely goals and become the star of the show.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed he is to field a weakened side to face Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. It is apparently to rest his stars as he prepares to face Arsenal at the weekend. Seems like a pretty poor excuse from a side who have a huge selection of talented players from all aspects of the world and who are all mostly experienced internationals. To me as a neutral it sounds like fear as Pellegrini very likely expects Bayern Munich to walk away with an easy win in Germany. We know a win from Manchester City does little to the Group D table as it will put them level with Bayern Munich but still 2nd unless City bang them 7 – 0 which is very unlikely being as Bayern Munich haven’t lost since the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund back in August.

Bayern Munich v Manchester City Team News

Bayern Munich Team News:

Bayern Munich are without winger Arjen Robben who was ruled out with a nasty knee injury that he picked up in the win over Augsburg in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday. He is likely to be out for 6 weeks after a large gash to his right knee caused him to limp off after goalkeeper Marwin Hitz caught him by accident. It is a blow for Bayern Munich and Robben who opened the scoring that night in the 3rd minute and was then leaving down the tunnel 10 minutes later.

Manchester City Team News:

Manchester City are without stars Jovetic and Nastasic who are both out with calf injuries but are expected back sometime this month or in the coming 2 weeks. We also have David Silva due back from a calf muscle strain he picked up last month after the game against CSKA Moskva in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics

With only 4 head to head statistics to go by we can see Bayern Munich are the team with better results having only lost once to a Manchester City side. With Bayern Munich also playing at home on Tuesday night the advantage is pretty much in their hands.

02/10/13 UCL Manchester City – Bayern Munich 1 : 3
01/08/13 CLF Bayern Munich – Manchester City 2 : 1
07/12/11 UCL Manchester City – Bayern Munich 2 : 0

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With the 11 goals scored in the last 4 head to head statistics between these two top sides we can see a goals per game average of 2.75 which should tell you we will hopefully see a couple of goals grace the net on Tuesday night.

Bayern Munich v Manchester City Recent Form

Bayern Munich: W W W W W

Manchester City: D W W W W

Bayern Munich are in incredible form right now having gone 27 games unbeaten in all competitions, and amazingly enough we have seen 25 wins and 2 draws which just shows they are the team to beat in European football.

Manchester City are clear outsiders for this match even though they are in good form right now. But they are playing a weakened side against the best team in Europe right now so a win is seen as unlikely by bookmakers. Bayern Munich v Manchester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Tuesday night is set to host some great games on TV, we have both Manchester clubs having already secured their places in the last 16 but with Manchester United looking to win the group which is expected. but with the game I am covering we see the blue side of Manchester rolling over like a wounded animal almost traveling to Germany expecting to lose. Manuel Pellegrini is likely to anger loyal fans with his recent statement of resting his stars so they can face Arsenal at the weekend. Don;t get me wrong its an important match in the Premier League for Manchester City but to openly say you are to field a weak side against the best team in Europe is almost suicidal.

Anyway I don’t think Pellegrini fielding a weakened side will matter too much and maybe that is his way of thinking. They are clearly a side we are very much likely to see in the final with the way they are playing and I can’t see them losing their unbeaten run anytime soon. I actually doubt in form Barcelona would come to this ground and leave with any result but a loss.

So what to go for in regards to predictions? I do believe regardless of what team Pellegrini puts out City always have a chance of scoring a goal or 2, and with Bayern Munich scoring 7 goals in their last match having both teams to score could well be a cert. I can’t see the odds being too great for that so I am going for Mario Mandzukic to score and Bayern Munich to win as my first choice. Yeah its not great odds but should be well within a shout of happening in Tuesday. My other choice as mentioned before is for both teams to score but also for Bayern Munich to win at the end of the 90 minutes.
