West Brom v Manchester City Preview, Premiership, Monday 10th August 2015.

West Bromwich Albion wont be best pleased with their opening game against last seasons runners up Manchester City. Not only that they also need to face Chelsea at home in the next few games and will no doubt be leaving them down the table as predictions will certainly be favouring them for the loss. That said they do also have to face new comers Watford who enjoyed a good result against Everton on Saturday with a draw, that could of even been a win until Kone equalized in the 86th minute. Anyway West Brom have enjoyed a good pre-season having played in seven fixtures. Although they didn’t face anyone too challenging they still won six and lost the once.

Manchester City will be challenging for the title once again this season and will hope to keep it tighter to favourites Chelsea this time round. City had a few up’s and downs but did still come good at the end with them finishing in second place come the end of the season. In their first five fixtures of the season the toughest challenge will be Chelsea at The Etihad stadium, and although they will be favourites for the win you just cannot predict anything so early on in the season. the clubs pre-season tour didn’t produce anything that exciting to be desired although they did manage to score eight goals past Vietnam with new signing Sterling scoring twice. They did lose to Real Madrid heavily and also took a hammering from Bundesliga side Stuttgart.

West Brom Team News:

West Brom still have goal keeper Ben Foster on the injury table, and wont return until October after suffering a crucial ligament injury. Gareth Mcauley is also reported to be injured with a calf muscle strain and is in doubt to feature at all during the game. As for transfers this summer the club have been busy. James Chester joined from Hull City while striker Ricky Lambert also signed from Liverpool for £3 million. James McClean joined from Wigan Athletic while Serge Gnabry of Arsenal has joined on loan in hopes of this season staying fit and uninjured.

Manchester City Team News:

Manchester City start the season with two injuries right now, with one of them being new signing Fabian Delph who has suffered a hamstring strain, yet should be available again by the end of August. Also out is Gael Clichy with a sore ankle and has no known time frame of a return. Manchester City have so far spent just under £60 million  so far although that could jump up to over £100 million next week. Raheem Sterling signed from Liverpool for just under £45 million while Delph joined for £8 million.

West Brom v Manchester City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we can clearly see it has been Manchester City who have dominated with five solid wins. In total we have 121 meetings between the two clubs in which the ratio isn’t as bad and you would of thought with West Brom winning 46. City however have won more with 54 victories, although we must take into account of their recent rise to the top having been bought out by extremely rich business men. The two have also drawn 21 games and the last time West Bromwich Albion have beaten Man City at home was back in 2010 in the League Cup 2 – 1.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 121 games played out between the two clubs we have seen a total of 402 goals scored and this is going to give us an average of 3.3 per game. Looking at the above head to head table that average is pretty much spot on, although is it a safe bet so early on in the Premiership season? Regardless I do feel the below option is a good call if this is your betting tipple.

Manchester City: L W L W W

Pre-season form has been better for the home side West Bromwich Albion here with six wins and a single loss. With Manchester City losing twice and winning on the four occasions. Yet me must also take into account of which teams played which, and by far it is Manchester City who have had the tougher opponents including the likes of Real Madrid, Stuttgart and Roma.

West Brom v Manchester City Match Betting Odds Market

West Brom may well be at home on Monday and also had a solid pre-season with some good wins, yet they are still considered outsiders to actually win the game by all leading bookmakers. The best odds for them to win however, can be seen coming in here @ 5/1 with Coral – Bet £5 & Get £20 Free when Registering a New Account.

The Draw I do feel is the best West Brom could hope for as they haven’t managed to beat Man City at home since way back in 2010 during their League Cup campaign. Manchester City are the clear and solid favourites to win Monday and it comes as no surprise seeing as though the league runners up are by far the better team. West Brom v Manchester City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Monday night football presents an exciting match with last years runners up Manchester City facing West Bromwich Albion who themselves have had a good solid pre-season. The game can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and promises plenty of goals scored if the last five head to head games is anything to take into account. Manchester City may not of had the best pre-season, yet they have made some excellent additions to their squad with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph who is current injured.

West Bromiwch Albion have also made some good additions and I am very pleased to see England striker Ricky Lambert return to first team football and not playing for scraps in a Liverpool side who suffered with a lack of goals last season. The ex Southampton striker clearly has an eye for goal in which he proved during the clubs pre-season when he scored on his début. That said having to face opponents like Manchester City will be a good chance to prove his worth and see himself back into the England mangers choices of potential strikers for the EURO Championships next year.

My predictions for this game on Monday night does tend to lean more so towards Manchester City who are the clear and solid favourites. But I do also feel West Bromwich Albion could steal something from the game, much like Swansea City did against Champions Chelsea on Saturday. So for the first lets go for Manchester City to win with both teams scoring on the night, and the next being an anytime goal scorer with Ricky Lambert to get his Premiership scoring account for this season up and running.
