Scotland v England Preview, World Cup 2018, Qualifier, Saturday 10th June 2017.
It’s back to World Cup action this weekend with England making the short drive up north to face neighbours Scotland. The hosts need to seriously work hard here at Hampden Park on Saturday as a loss could spell disastrous times for the Scots with their only hope to then qualify via the play-off position in second. A win however will see them into second place depending however on Slovenia and Slovakia.
So far Scotland have won and loss twice having also drawn against Lithuania at home which is seen as a terrible result for Gordon Strachan’s side. The last time these two rivals met we did see Scotland lose 3 – 0 at Wembley and before that at home then losing 3 – 1 in a friendly encounter back in November of 2014. Scotland have yet to beat England at home and I for one doubt we will be seeing any change anytime soon.
England so far during these qualifying games seem to have come off rather well with them currently sitting top of the pile with thirteen points from a maximum of fifteen. They did slip up ever so slightly when they payed visit to Slovenia back in October of last year, yet it has done very little to damage their chances of finishing top of the groups table with Slovakia currently four points behind.
The visitors are the solid favourites to continue at the top of the table come the end of Saturday night with a win predicted on the cards for Gareth Southgates side. That said even if they did lose they would still stay top of the table with Slovakia potentially closing the gap to just one point if they win away from home against Lithuania Saturday evening. Something which is very likely for the nation with them the better side.
Scotland Team News:
Scotland themselves will be without striker Steven Fletcher due to an injury, while manager Strachan has added a few new uncapped players to the squad to face England. Hearts stopper Jack Hamilton could start with Allan McGregor unavailable due to a thumb injury. Mark Reynolds and winger Ryan Fraser have been named in the squad and also yet to be capped.
England Team News:
England however have a fully fit squad to face Scotland this Saturday. They will be without current captain Wayne Rooney who has been dropped. It doesn’t mean it is over for the veteran Manchester United striker, yet he has been told he requires more game time to be considered as a regular for this England team.
Scotland v England Head to Head Statistics:
In the last five games played it is England who are the more dominant side with four wins and the shock loss at home back during the European Championship Qualifiers back in 1999. In total the two sides have faced each other on nine occasions with Scotland only winning the twice, and with England enjoying a total of six victories. Leaving just the one draw seen between the pair.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics
In the nine games played out over time we have seen a total of thirty goals. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 3.3, something we have seen in many of the games between the two rivals throughout the years. I’d be more inclined however to take the below selection for Saturdays encounter, especially with the game being played in Scotland.
Scotland v England Recent Form (Left to Right)
Scotland: W D L L D
England: W L D W D
Although we have seen England lose recently we must remember to whom they have lost to. Germany is a fine example with England being the better team for a majority of the game and really did deserve to come out winners, then there is also the 2 – 2 draw against Spain who themselves managed to score twice in the dying minutes of the game.

Scotland v England Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.
World Cup Qualifier action this Saturday comes live from Hampden Park in Scotland, where the hosts welcome their bitter rivals England to their ground in hopes of a much needed three points. The game can be viewed live via ITV high definition which should no doubt be a very exciting match to witness. Although England are the solid favourites, Scotland will be hoping to work hard in hopes of taking all three points.
That said England have lost to Scotland twice before, but we need to be realistic here as Scotland are not playing as well as they were at the beginning of last year. They are currently six points behind England in the table with only five games played. having won just two games it has really hindered their chances of winning qualification to next years World Cup in Russia.
England on the other hand are the clear favourites to win Saturday as well as win the group overall. I just cannot see who could potentially stop them, but then that has pretty much been the story for as long as I can remember with them always seeming to play against weak opposition in the group stages. That said they have faced the likes of France, Spain and Germany recently and done extremely well.
My predictions for the game this Saturday do of course see that of an England win, with their opponents offering very little resistance against them. For my banker I am going to take England to win the game to nil, with the odds of that coming in rather nicely right now. The next prediction I am going for is Jermain Defoe to score two of more goals on the night, lets just hope he gets some decent playing time.
