Chelsea v Liverpool Preview, Premiership, Sunday 10th May 2015

Chelsea secured their 5th top flight title last weekend when beating Crystal Palace 1-0 in front of their home fans at stamford bridge and now that the important business has been taken care of this season, I am expecting manager Jose Mourinho to give some of the youngsters a chance to gain some much needed first team football, so don’t be surprised to see a lot of the main key players rested for this one.

Liverpool are still in with a faint chance of securing champions league football if they can catch Manchester United in the race for that final 4th spot and both the players and fans will be hoping that Jose Mourinho does decide to rest his key players in favour of the younger ones as Liverpool really must win all of their remaining three matches and hope that Manchester United slip up if they are to obtain that 4th place finish.

Chelsea Team News:

Oscar is out for the remainder of the season with a thigh injury and will definitely play no part in this match and it also looks unlikely that Diego Costa will be risked either having only recently returned back to the squad after injury and I would expect the manager to use these final three games to provide some of the younger players in his squad a chance to impress.

Liverpool Team News:

Daniel Sturridge is out until at least September having undergone a hip operation and defender Mamadou Sakho is also unvailable due to a hamstring problem. Mario Balotelli has returned back to training having fully recovered from a foot injury and looks likely to feature at some point during this game.

Chelsea v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

Sunday’s afternoon fixture from Stamford Bridge will become the 162nd meeting overall between the two clubs over the years. Chelsea have managed to secure 56 victories with 43 of those having came with home advantage where as Liverpool have managed to secure 69 victories with 21 of those having came at Stamford Bridge.

Our head to head statistics table below shows the previous five matches played between the two clubs over recent season’s and as we can see it has been Chelsea who have dominated proceedings having won 4 with Liverpool having won 0 with the remaining game having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 161 previous games that have taken place over the years between these two clubs we have seen a total of 461 goals scored and this provides us with an average goals per game statistic of 2.86.

221 of those Goals have been scored in the previous 82 matches played between the two clubs at Stamford Bridge and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic for this game of 2.69.

Both sets of data shown above seem to suggest that this game on Sunday afternoon should see at least a couple of goals grace the back of the nets.

Chelsea v Liverpool Match Betting Odds Market

Chelsea are the clear favourites to win this game on Sunday afternoon which should not come as much of a shock to anyone and are a current best price of 11/10 with Bet365 – £200 Matched Bonus Bets for New Customers.

The Draw is trading at a current best price of 5/2 with Paddy Power – Bet £10 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers and this could prove to be good value if Chelsea decide to rest some key players.

Liverpool will be desperate to win this game as failure to do so will mean the end of any hopes they have about securing a champions league place for next season and their current best price of 29/10 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets for New Customers, does also look value as they have to go for the win in this game.

Chelsea v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

The outcome of this game largely relies on who the Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho decides to rest for this game on Sunday afternoon and how many of those key players will be missing in favour of some fresh young talent that are likely to be given a chance to impress their manager.

Obviously if he rings the changes and players like Hazard, Costa, Remy and Fabregas are all given the day off then I would not fancy Chelsea’s chances of winning this game as Liverpool basicly have to win to keep their hopes alive of still being able to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

However, Jose Mourinho is a very proud man and he certainly won’t want to lose this game either as that would tarnish his teams record this season despite having won the title and as such I do expect to see a large majority of the first team taking to the field for this one.

Liverpool have been a mere shadow of the team they were last season when Suarez and Sturridge were scoring goals for fun week in week out and with Sturridge having had a torrid time of this time around with injuries and now out until at least September due a recent hip operation, I can’t see where the Liverpool goals will come from.

Raheem Sterling would probably be their only hope of possibly getting something out of this match, but I do find it very difficult to see Liverpool coming away as the winners of this game and as such my Banker Prediciton is going to be for Chelsea to Win.

My Saver is going to be for Both Teams to Score & Chelsea to Win as I can possibly see Raheem Sterling getting one for the visitors.
