Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Europa League, Last 16 1st Leg, Thursday 10th March 2016.

So far this year Borussia Dortmund have been the team to beat having now gone fifteen games unbeaten in all competitions. We do also include a few club friendlies in there but it is still a very impressive run and even managed to hold league leaders and current champions Bayern Munich to a goalless draw at the weekend.

Borussia Dortmund are clear favourites to win on Thursday night and I personally can see them continuing on and also winning away from home in London against Spurs. They are just five points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and continue to pile on the pressure in a bid to win another league title come the end of the season. They are also my favourites to win the Europa League although I have not predicted who they will face in the final.

Tottenham Hotspurs played their local derby last weekend and managed to almost beat Arsenal even though they went 1 – 0 down just before half time by a spectacular goal. But Spurs responded well in the second half and fought back with two quick goals on the hour mark when Alderweireld and Harry Kane managed to score within two minutes of each other.

They couldn’t hold it however and fifteen minutes later the ten man Arsenal managed to equalize and eventually hold onto an important one point. It did end a disappointing week for Tottenham who did manage to lose away from home to West Ham United just three days prior, and they will be hoping the last two results wont effect the teams confidence too much as they face the hardest opponents of this competition.

Borussia Dortmund Team News:

Home side Borussia Dortmund have no new injury issues right now after doing well against Bayern Munich at the weekend. Spurs defenders should be concerned with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is in sensational form this season and rumoured to be a transfer target for a number of Premiership clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Sadly for Tottenham and the fans they wont be seeing Dele Alli on Thursday night due to the midfielder serving a suspension, which should see Christian Eriksen fit in the no.10 position. Clinton N’Jie is still missing with a knee injury while Danny Rose is a doubt due to a calf strain. Jan Vertonghen is also still out injury and unavailable.

Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

We have no recorded fixtures played out between the two clubs with this Thursday night set to be a very exciting event. Of course Borussia Dortmund are a tough side right now and also the bookies favourites to win this first leg in Germany. The 2nd leg in London is due to be played seven days later and I can only imagine Spurs will have a comeback on their hands.

Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Borussia Dortmund: D W W W W

Tottenham Hotspur: D L W W L

Both clubs are playing well right now and it’s a strange sight seeing Tottenham Hotspurs in second and fighting for a Premiership title. But that said they are doing well even though they haven’t won in the last two fixtures played. Borussia Dortmund however are playing exceptional since Christmas and have now gone fifteen games unbeaten in all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Europa League action this Thursday night can be seen live on BT Sports 2 and of course in High Definition at the beautiful ground of Borussia Dortmund in Germany. The Bundesliga side have been incredible since this new year started and have gone on to play fifteen games with winning thirteen and drawing the remaining two. It puts them just five points behind current leaders Bayern Munich who were held to a 0 – 0 result at the weekend.

It’s the tightest its been in the Bundesliga in recent years, with Bayern Munich having dominated since Dortmund last won the league. With just five points adrift its nice to see Jurgen Klopps old side applying the pressure of Bayern. The clubs next three games should see them potentially claim nine points, although Mainz 05 will no doubt be their toughest challenge.

Tottenham Hotspurs could of kept up the pressure on Leicester City if they managed a rare win over bitter rivals Arsenal on Saturday. But managed to let slip a lead to ten men Arsenal with quarter hour remaining. Spurs will know it will be a tough fight in Germany on Thursday night as the German side are in exceptional form and don’t lose very often. The last time they did lose at home was in the Europa League group stages before the new year.

Although Tottenham Hotspurs only managed a draw on Saturday they are still coming out on top when the bookmakers are looking at title winning favourites this season. They face relegation battling sides Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth who are only a handful of points outside the red zone. Liverpool away from home complete the next five fixtures, and the way Liverpool are performing that could be a very tough game.

My predictions for this game does favour that of Borussia Dortmund purely due to the teams current form since Christmas. They haven’t lost if fifteen games as mention and I personally see them winning this home tie. I am going to go with both teams to score and Borussia Dortmund to win, as knowing Spurs they are very attack minded and of course do have a goal or two in them.

The next I am going for is a wild card and maybe feel Spurs could be the team to score first on the night, even if it is by pure luck or a defensive mistake by Dortmund. So for this prediction I plan to take Harry Kane to score first on the night, and with the enhanced odds available it does look very attractive.
