FC Porto v FC Basel Preview, Champions League, Tuesday 10th March 2015.

Portuguese side FC Porto earned a late equalizer in Switzerland for the fist leg back in February, and it will suit them nicely for the second leg at The Estadio Do Dragao on Tuesday night. Form has been great for Porto who have now won six Primeira Liga games in a row, yet are still four points adrift current league leaders Benfica. It can be said that Porto had the easier of the Champions League group stages and it showed as they dominated it with four wins and two draws to finish top on fourteen points. They had also only conceded the four goals while scoring a healthy sixteen.

FC Basel I feel are one of the most under rated teams in Europe right now and you would think teams would come to learn by now that Basel are close to becoming a team to be reckoned with. They did manage to squeeze through into the knock-out stages after coming second to Spanish giants Real Madrid, and that will of come down to the two great results earned against English side Liverpool who were a disappointment this season in Europe. Although coming second was the best they could of hoped for, they were an incredible elven points adrift first placed Madrid.

FC Porto Team News:

FC Porto are not struggling for goals in any competitions right now as we see attacker Jackson Martinez on form with six goals in the Champions League. He has also scored nineteen others in other competitions making him the clubs top goal scorer this season. Midfielder Yacine Brahimi is also firing accurately in Europe so far, have netted five times and also assisting in three making him a very valuable player for the club.

FC Basel Team News:

FC Basel will be hoping for a better performance than the first leg, after only having the one shot during the game. Luckily enough it was the goal scored by Derlis Gonzalez in the 11th minute of the game. The clubs top scorer is currently midfielder Shkelzen Gashi who has scored seventeen goals in all competitions. Yet sixteen of these have come in their domestic league with him seeming to struggle when in Europe.

FC Porto v FC Basel Head to Head Statistics

This is only the second time these two would have met in history, with FC Basel only ever playing five Portuguese sides in the Champions League competition. They have also never beaten a team from Portugal having drawn twice and lose the three. They will however need a win on Tuesday if they wish to progress into the next round, after drawing 1 – 1 at home in February.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

Having only played the once against each other, we sadly only have the two goals to take into account for Tuesdays fixture. Meaning it would equal a two goals per game average which to be honest is always a good choice for many Champions League games at this stage.

FC Basel: W W W L D

Both teams have great form right now when it comes to looking at their domestic leagues and cup fixtures. Yet it would however still go to FC Porto who have been in exceptional form during the Champions League campaign, and are one of the few teams who have yet to lose a game in the competition.

FC Porto are the better side here and have yet to lose a game during their Champions League campaign. The best odds right now for the Portuguese team to win can be seen coming in here @ 1/2 with Betfred – Bet £10 Get £30 Free Bets for New Registering Accounts

The Draw will be a result neither teams will want on Tuesday night, unless of course the games ends 2 – 2, in which FC Basel will progress on the away goals ruling. Porto I can imagine will go all out for the win, although the best odds on the draw can be seen here @ 7/2 with Sky Bet – Bet £5 & Get £20 Free, Then a Free £5 Bet Every Week Once Registered

FC Basel have shocked teams in the past be it home or away in the competition. FC Porto v FC Basel Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Champions League football on Tuesday night can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition, where we see FC Porto from Portugal, take on the Switz side FC Basel. FC Basel as mentioned did only manage the one shot on target during the first leg at home, and luckily for them it did end up in the net to earn them an eventual draw. They will however need to play much better come Tuesday night away from home, as only a win or high scoring draw will see them progress into the next stages.

Both teams are in good form right now, this is mainly however in their domestic competitions with the exception of FC Porto who are playing exceptionally well in all competitions. They have also had the easier group, but still did manage to dominate it and now are only one of three sides who have yet to lose in the competition with Chelsea and Real Madrid being the other two. Basel are top of their domestic league which is something we come to expect every year with them not having much of a challenge each season.

My predictions for this game will of course back home side FC Porto to win as I cannot see FC Basel putting up much of a fight after watching the first leg in Switzerland. So for the first lets go for a Jackson Martinez goal and for FC Porto to win the game, which will be giving some positive odds either way. The next I am going to go for is a correct score guess of FC Porto to win the game 2 – 0 on the night. FC Basel after the first leg are not worrying me too much when it comes down to turning in a goal or two.
