Chelsea v Scunthorpe United Preview, FA Cup 3rd Round, Sunday 10th January 2016.

Chelsea do seem to have turned their season around at last with them miraculously only losing the one game in the last five Premiership fixtures. That loss was away from home to Leicester City 2 – 1 but have since then managed to build a tally of eight points from a maximum twelve, which in turn has seen them climb up the table and now in fourteenth. It’s an easy tie for Chelsea here with League One side Scunthorpe United having issues in their league with them being as low as Fifteenth with only one league win in their last six fixtures.

Scunthorpe United almost struggled in round two against Leyton Orient and it took a home replay to make sure they got through to the next round. The third round is a great fixture for the League One club as win, lose or draw at The Bridge is a result in regards to financial reasons. Although a win seems extremely unlikely the club and players should just enjoy the experience, reap the rewards then get back to trying to repair the damage to the league position with tough games against Coventry City coming up in the next week or so.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea will be missing strikers Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao due to injury as well as the much talked about Eden Hazard who is also sidelined. Defender Gary Cahill has returned to the team having recovered from an ankle ligament injury he picked up on Boxing Day.

Scunthorpe United Team News:

The clubs top scorer Paddy Madden is expected to be fit and available for selection this Sunday, with him currently struggling with a tight hamstring. They are also missing Gary McSheffrey due to his knee as well as Tom Hopper with shoulder damage. The two have returned to training but are lacking in match fitness.

Chelsea v Scunthorpe United Head to Head Statistics:

We only have the one meeting between the two clubs recorded, which was eleven years ago in 2005 and also in the FA Cup competition. It was at Stamford Bridge in which Chelsea won with ease 3 – 1. The home side are also solid favourites to win this Sunday afternoon, with Scunthorpe United having little to no hope of earning a pass into the next round.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only the one game played we have only recorded four goals in total, which to be honest is a good option for Sundays game, given the difference in quality between the two clubs. Although Chelsea haven’t been their best this season they have started to play better under their new manager having only lost the once in their last five games played.

Scunthorpe United: D D W L W

On paper both clubs are roughly in the same form and that’s only because Chelsea have improved somewhat under new manager Guus Hiddink with two wins, two draws and the 2 – 1 loss to Leicester City away from home last month. Chelsea are the clear favourites to win with them being at home and the better quality side.

Chelsea v Scunthorpe United Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup 3rd Round action this Sunday comes live from Stamford Bridge with Chelsea taking on League One strugglers Scunthorpe United in what should be an exciting match with plenty of goals on BT Sports 2 High Definition. We all expect the Premier League Champions Chelsea to walk out and dominate the game regardless of the side Guus Hiddink plans to field. Although Chelsea will be fielding a weakened side with the likes of Eden Hazard out injured, and of course the addition of a few youngsters to the starting line up. I still expect Chelsea to walk out and destroy the likes of Scunthorpe United.

Scunthorpe United are having a tough time in League One currently with them sitting in fifteenth position with only the one league win in their last seven fixtures. In that time they have lost twice and drawn the other three games with their last two fixtures being just that. The club are just seven points off the relegation zone so once the FA Cup is done and dusted they really do need to get back to their league preparations and start winning. Chelsea on the other hand are improving and their recent results have seen them close the gap between those and the teams who were above them.

My predictions for this FA Cup tie does of course back that of the Premiership Champions to win the game, but its how that makes it important of we wish to earn some money out of this. One of them will be for both teams to score and Chelsea to win the game. I’ve gone for this only because Chelsea are vulnerable at the back and Scunthorpe United could catch them on the break and grab a rare goal. My banker will be for Diego Costa to score two or more goals during the match, which he should be more than capable of unless he gets sent off for some reason.
