Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid Preview, Primera La Liga, Sunday 10th January 2016.

Celta Viga have had a sensational season so far in the La Liga with them currently sitting in fifth place and just ten points off the league leaders Atletico Madrid. This home tie against Madrid on Sunday is the perfect opportunity to shorten that gap, yet although a win will be tough it is more than within this teams capabilities. They also will want to win as they also need to close the five point gap between them and Villarreal who occupy that 4th place Champions League spot, a competition I am sure Celta Vigo would love to be in next season. The clubs next match is in the Copa del Rey against Cadiz in which they should win with ease with them already 3 – 0 up on aggregate.

Atletico Madrid are enjoying their football this season and have kept up with the top sides Barcelona and Real Madrid. Granted Barcelona do have a game in hand, in which if it is won they then will take the top spot off of Madrid and be ahead by just one point. The pressure is on for Atletico Madrid this Sunday as Celta Vigo themselves are enjoying a very successful season having only been beaten once at home in their last ten games in all competitions. A win on Sunday for Madrid will keep up the pressure on Barcelona who will no doubt win on Saturday against seventeenth placed Granada at home.

Celta Vigo Team News:

Celta Viga do have a couple of injury worries right now with Nolito out with a thigh muscle strain. We then have Fontas out missing due to his achilles tendon. Another player out missing for this game is Ruben Blanco who is currently suspended after being sent off in the 2 – 0 loss away from home to Malaga.

Atletico Madrid Team News:

Atletico Madrid only have the one injury right now in which Portuguese star Tiago is the culprit due to a broken shinbone. The club have been in fine form all season and their top scorer is currently Antoine Griezmann who has so far scored nine La Liga goals.

Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played against each other we have seen Atletico Madrid come out on top with three wins and a draw. Yet last season did manage to lose away from home to Celta Vigo 2 – 0. In total we have 30 fixtures recorded in which Atletico Madrid have won 17 and Celta Vigo 9. Meaning the remaining 7 games have ended as draws of some kind.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 30 games played out against each other we have seen a total of 85 goals scored, which is going to give us a goals per game average of 2.8, which to be honest isn’t that bad when looking at the last five results. I’d say the below option should be a good one for Sundays game.

Celta Vigo: W L L W W

Atletico Madrid: D W W L W

In the last five games played the league leaders Atletico Madrid just come out on top with that draw against Rayo Vallecano splitting the two up. Both clubs have lost to Malaga in recent weeks and Celta Vigo also have that extra loss against Athletic Bilbao at home.

Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid Match Betting Odds Market

Celta Vigo may well be at home Sunday, and also beat their opponents last season at home, yet are still not favourites to win the game. Best odds on them actually doing so can be found here @ 18/5 with Betvictor – £50 Free Bets for New Customers when Registering a New Account

The Draw would be a good result for Celta Vigo as that would still also close the gap between them both a little. Chances of that happening though are not seen as likely, with the best odds currently found here for the draw 5/2 with Bet365 – Receive £200 Matched Bets when You Register a New Account

Atletico Madrid are the favourites to win the game Sunday night and if they achieve it then they will go back to the top of the table. This does also depend on if Barcelona win on Saturday which is predicted. Celta Vigo v Atletico Madrid Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Primera La Liga action this Sunday can be viewed live on Sky Sports 2 High Definition and features fifth place Celta Vigo verses current La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid. The away team will want to win on Sunday night as this will then put them back to the top of the table if Barcelona manage to win at home to Granada on Saturday. If Atletico Madrid fail to win then a draw will not be enough as Barcelona have the better goal difference.

Celta Vigo will be praying for a win themselves as it will close the gap between the two clubs to seven, and also keep the pressure on Villarreal who are currently five points in front in that Champions League finishing spot. If Celta Vigo manage to qualify for Europe then that would be a huge achievement for the club and allow them to build for a better season next year. Celta Vigo did beat Atletico Madrid at home last year, and the club will be hoping for much of the same when the two meet on Sunday evening.

My predictions for this game does tend to lean more towards the draw, as both teams are playing well. Although that said Celta Vigo have lost twice recently, with their last game being a win in the Copa del Rey to lower league opponents. So for my banker I am just going to play it safe and select both teams to score at some point. The next I am going for is in form striker Antoine Griezmann to score at anytime during the game.
