Olympiakos v Arsenal Preview, Champions League, Wednesday 9th December 2015.

It’s been a great season so far for Greek side Olympiakos who are currently thirteen points ahead in their domestic Super League. Even in the Champions League they have enjoyed much success having beaten Arsenal in London as well as two other victories. They have also lost twice which was both against top of the table Bayern Munich 3 – 0 in Greece and then 4 – 0 in Germany. All they need on Wednesday night is a draw at home to Arsenal and can only really go out of the competition if Arsenal beat them by two clear goals which will leave them on joint points and having had the better results against each other. Arsenal are tipped to go out of the Champions League tonight with the odds on them progressing not looking very good.

Arsenal may of beaten Bayern Munich 2 – 0 at The Emirates yet were then humiliated in Germany by a massive 5 – 1, adding a third loss to Arsenal’s tally so far in the Champions League. Only a big win tonight will see Arsenal progress into the next stage, with them needing to win by two goals or more, although it’s not looking promising for Arsene Wenger and his injury ravaged side. Arsenal have slipped up recently in the Premier League having lost away from home to West Bromwich Albion, and then also drawing on their travels to lowly side Norwich City. Yet did bounce back last weekend against Sunderland at home with a 3 – 1 victory. It now leaves them second in the table two points adrift Leicester City who are top.

Olympiakos Team News:

Luckily for Olympiakos they are almost injury free but do see the ex Leicester City man Esteban Cambiasso return to potentially replace Pajtim Kasami or Luka Milivojevic. Brown Ideye was rested at the weekend and should be joining the attacking line up to face Arsenal.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsenal are missing seven key players for this Wednesday night clash, with Alexis Sanchez being recently added to the list. Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere continue to be a common name on the injury list while Santi Cazorla has now been ruled out for up to four months with a serious knee problem. Francis Coquelin, Tomas Rosicky nad Danny Welbeck are still recovering from their long term injuries.

Olympiakos v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head battles we see Greek side Olympiakos come out on top with three wins and a couple of loses. The last three times these two clubs have met in Greece Arsenal have lost, so it’s not looking promising for this injury struck Arsenal side. Arsenal need to win this away fixture by two goals or more, with a 1 – 0 or 2 – 1 win clearly not enough. The two have met on seven previous occasions with Olympiakos winning four and losing three times, meaning the two clubs have yet to draw.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the seven games these two clubs have featured against each other we have seen a total of 22 goals scored, being eleven each exactly. This is going to give us an average of 3.1 goals per game which is pretty good when looking at the above table. I think the below option for Wednesdays game is a good option however.

Olympiakos: W W W L W

Arsenal: W D W L D

Olympiakos are the better team in form right now having only lost the once in their last five fixtures played, this was against Bayern Munich in the Champions League so more than acceptable. Arsenals recent loss was against West Bromwich Albion which was a shocking result for the club, only for them to then go and draw against Norwich City who are down close to the bottom of the table.

Olympiakos v Arsenal Match Betting Odds Market

Olympiakos are not favourites to win this match which I am somewhat confused about when looking at their current form and also having the better of their opponents previously. The bookmakers best odds for the home win can be found coming in here @ 27/10 with Betvictor – £50 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

The Draw is a result I am leaning towards for Wednesday nights game, especially seeing as though it would be the first of its kind in the seven previous games played. Olympiakos v Arsenal Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Champions League Group F action on Wednesday night can be seen live in Greece with Olympiakos playing hosts to Arsenal who are odds on favourites to win the game. However as stated a few times, Arsenal will be in need of a solid victory with them winning the game by at least two goals on the night. Arsenal have failed to beat their Greek opponents in their last three away meetings and we are wondering if this could be a forth time lucky for Arsene Wenger and his injury ravaged Arsenal squad.

Olympiakos themselves are in fantastic form in their domestic Super League and haven’t lost a game in the last twelve games, yet in the Champions League they are not the strongest of sides although they did manage that shock away win in London against Arsenal. Their two loses have both came at the hands of Bayern Munich both home and away, where they also failed to score and conceded seven. All they need to do tonight is play on the defensive and hit Arsenal on the counter attack to potentially score for themselves. They know Arsenal have been hit with injuries, yet also know they more than have enough quality to beat them on the night be it home or away.

My predictions for this game is more leaning towards the two actually drawing the game somehow, with that result on its own giving more than enough odds to be happy with. However for me I am going to go with both teams to score and for the two sides to draw on the night, being the first draw seen between the two clubs. The next I am going for is a first for me, I am going to back Arsenal to win but it will only be 2 – 1, obviously not enough for them to qualify. The other addition I am adding is also for Olivier Giroud to score in this 2 – 1 victory.
