Moldova v Republic of Ireland Preview, World Cup 2018, Qualifier, Sunday 9th October 2016.

Its set to be a tough game as usual for Moldova on Sunday because their opponents the Republic of Ireland and in good form right now having won their most recent World Cup Qualifier against Georgia at home. Moldova have yet to score a goal during the two qualifying matches they have played with them being hammered twice by Wales and then Serbia.

As expected they are not the bookmakers favourites to win this game even though they are at home come Sunday, and with them likely set to lose this game I can also see them set to possibly lose away from home to Georgia. Next year they start with being away from home to Austria and will no doubt fail to pick up any points here also. Maybe we will see them pick up their first points at home to Georgia in June but don’t hold your breath.

The Republic of Ireland have done well so far having earned a valuable point away from home to Serbia in their opening World Cup Qualifier back in September. They then played hosts to Georgia on Thursday where although they did secure the three points, really should of done far better than the 1 – 0 scoreline. This fixture does see them as the favourites to win, yet will need to step up their game to come away with the three points.

The next five games should see them win Sunday against Moldova and then also Georgia away from home September next year. In between these they kick start the new year away from home to Austria which will be a very tough encounter. Then play hosts to neighbours Wales in March and then again at home to Austria in June.

Moldova Team News:

Coach Igor Dobrovolskiy have a side struggling to score goals right now with none finding the net in the clubs opening two World Cup Qualifiers. The side have scored just five goals in the last two qualifier competitions with all the five seen way back during the European Championships Qualifiers for France 2016.

Republic of Ireland Team News:

The Republic of Ireland will be missing Robbie Brady due to concussion after a clash of heads with Georgia defender Solomon Kverkvelia on Thursday. They are also without Jeff Hendrick who is suspended. Sadly for the Irish they will be without the injured Daryl Murphy so look to have very few options up front.

Moldova v Republic of Ireland Head to Head Statistics:

This will be the first time these two nations have faced each other and although Moldova are at home I can’t see them coming out of this one with a win against the passionate Irish. The bookmakers have set the Republic of Ireland as favourites, although how many goals will we see I have no idea due to a lack of Irish strikers available.

Moldova v Republic of Ireland Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

World Cup Qualifying action this Sunday evening can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1, and of course in glorious High Definition. We see Moldova set as the hosts with they welcoming the crazy group of Irish fans to their ground. The Republic of Ireland are as already mentioned the favourites to win this match, with Moldova set as the groups easier opponents.

Moldova have won once in their last five games, with an away 1 – 0 win against Andorra back at the start of the year in March. They did only lose 1 – 0 away from home to tough side Croatia, so will we be expecting a performance like that against the Republic of Ireland this Sunday evening? If they wish to progress to the World Cup finals then wins will need to be battled for, although I personally see it as highly unlikely.

The Republic of Ireland will fancy their chances  on Sunday evening even though Moldova can make it tough. They have let in seven goals in the last two games against Wales and Serbia, so could we see this depleted Irish strike force cause any trouble? I am sure Martin O’Neil will require goals to come from other part of his side with so many issues up front clearly showing.

My predictions for this game does as expected fancy the Irish to win this match, yet it is how to go for it. I can’t see Moldova scoring any goals so I am thinking of the Republic of Ireland to win this game to nil as my banker. The next I am going for is Republic of Ireland to win this game 2 – 0. I am hoping they do play better than the game against Georgia which ended with just the one goal scored.
