Ipswich Town v Norwich City Preview, Championship Play-off Semi Final 1st Leg, Saturday 9th May 2015.

It’s time to tell which team will be joining Championship Champions, Bournemouth, and second placed Watford who have been automatically promoted to the Premier League. Ipswich town are coming in last place in terms to who the bookmakers favour to go up and instead we see Norwich City as the likely favourites to be promoted this season. Ipswich Town did well to make it into the last available play off spot with a well fought draw to Wolves who finished just behind them in the table on joint points. As well as that they then beat Nottingham Forest 2 – 1 before losing their final game 3 – 2 to Blackburn Rovers. It could of gone horribly wrong for Ipswich Town who could of lost that place Wolves who were only slightly behind on goal difference.

Norwich City were one of the four Championship sides who could of won the league in their final three games, yet slipped up against Middlesbrough in a 1 – 0 loss, only to then draw away from home to nearly relegated Rotherham United. However they did win their final game at home to Fulham to end up just one point ahead of Middlesbrough and three behind the automatically promoted Watford. Norwich City may well be away from home this Saturday, yet are still considered the bookmakers favourites to walk away with a win after the ninety minutes. They are also considered the favourites to win the play off final at Wembley, who I feel could be against Middlesbrough who have also had a very strong and convincing season.

Ipswich Town Team News:

Mick McCarthy will be thankful in the fact he has had such a prolific striker this season and without Daryl Murphy the story of Ipswich Town reaching the play-offs could of seen a very different ending. The striker has scored twenty seven goals in all competitions and although Ipswich Towns form had slipped in recent months, the striker however still managed to keep up his scoring efforts.

Norwich City Town Team News:

Norwich City have enjoyed a good season under Alex Neil who has only managed the side in half of their games this season, winning an incredible 49 out of 86 points. The clubs top scorer is Cameron Jerome who has netted 18 times. They clubs key player however is Bradley Johnson who has has a great season playing as the sides defensive midfielder and also scoring 15 goals.

We have in total 54 matches played between the two and things are very even with Ipswich Town just getting the upper hand with 22 wins and 21 loses. Meaning we have 11 games ending in draws.

Ipswich Town: L W D W W

Norwich City: W D L W W

Norwich City have been the better team overall this season even though the above form table is pretty even. Norwich are also the bookmakers favourites to win on Saturday in this 1st leg, and doing so will require an incredible achievement from Ipswich Town if they wish to recover.

Ipswich Town v Norwich City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Championship play-off action this Saturday comes to us live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features Ipswich Town verses Norwich City for the 1st leg. The bookmakers are making Norwich City the favourites to win at the weekend, and also see them as the favourites to win the play-offs and follow Bournemouth and Watford into the Premiership.

Both teams have the same form when looking at their last five games played, yet we must also look at who lost against who, in which Norwich City are the better team with them having played the better opponents such as Middlesbrough. Ipswich Town could of missed out on the play-offs if Wolves managed to win the game when the two met a game or so previous, and will be kicking themselves now with them ending on the same points and finishing in 7th.

My predictions for this Championship play-off 1st leg will be to back Norwich City for a win of some sort, yet I do also feel Ipswich Town have something to offer if they manage to put in a shift. So for the first I plan to take Norwich Town to win the game 2 – 0 after the ninety minutes. The next will be for Ipswich Town to shock the bookmakers and come out of the game with a draw, and with that I plan to take both teams to score and draw.
