Real Madrid v Osasuna Preview, Copa del Rey, Thursday 9th January 2014

Results are coming in think and fast for Real Madrid having started to recover some points of late, with now only five points behind league leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid who are on joint points we can all look forward to some exciting encounters between the big three as they look to either put more points between them or continue to play catch up. Although Real Madrid played well on Monday against struggling side Celta de Vigo they did leave it late when the first goal arrived in the 67th minute from a Benzema effort. Quarter of an hour late Cristiano Ronaldo burst onto the scene scoring and then adding another in the 90th minute which ended the game 3 – 0.

Last year was quite simply terrible for Osasuna who only managed four wins since the season kicked off. With recording a total of ten loses during last year they did however manage grabbing a point against current La Liga leaders Barcelona. Before then going on another run of bad defeats. With the end of the year coming to a close they did however pick up their game finishing the year with 4 draws. This also includes a draw to Real Madrid and the 4 – 4 aggregate over two legs in the Copa del Rey. Going through with the away goals they are now set to face Real Madrid in the 1st leg away from home and if they can play like they did at home in the league then they could hold out hope for a result.

Real Madrid Team News:

Real Madrid’s only injury worries are French international Raphael Varane who is missing with a knee injury until further notice, as well as German star Sami Khedira who will unlikely feature for some time after picking up a crucial knee ligament injury mid November. Good news however to see Gareth Bale back from injury and will most likely feature in Thursdays game at the Bernabeu.

Osasuna Team News:

Osasuna are missing a three Spanish players for this game, they more worrying is Sisi who picked up a crucial knee ligament injury back in October and will unlikely feature again this season. The other important player is Manuel who has been playing a lot this season and he missing the next few weeks with a thigh strain picked up last week. The other is Nino who hasn’t featured this season yet and it is unsure if he will after suffering the same injury as Sisi but back in July.

Real Madrid v Osasuna Head to Head Statistics:

Surprisingly enough we have seen Osasuna take a few points off Real Madrid in recent seasons as well as this, and it will not make them happy knowing that after previous results have seen a complete demolition of their opponents. Over the years we have 29 head to heads recorded and seen Real Madrid win 17 of them compared to Osasuna’s 5 with the remaining 7 ending in a draw. During those results we have only seen Osasuna grab a draw away from home 3 times and only once with a win.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In those 29 past games we have seen a total of 87 goals scored which gives us an average of 3 goals per game. Now we should be looking at a higher number there but it appears that Real Madrid often switch off when facing this opponent. But with being at home we can only hope they rekindle their goal scoring form and see a fair few hit the nets on Thursday.

Real Madrid v Osasuna Recent Form (Left to Right)

Real Madrid: W W W W D

Osasuna: W D D D D

With Real Madrid fighting for top honours it is very rarely they drop points as they look to keep up the pace with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Osasuna however are a side battling it out at the bottom and only sit two points a drift the drop zone. So as you can guess it would be Real Madrid who have the advantage here in regards to form and progressing into the next round after the two legs.

Real Madrid v Osasuna Match Betting Odds Market

Real Madrid are of course easy favourites to win this match and being at home will not help you get the best odds. But with the best around being offered here @ 1/8 with Paddy Power – (Receive £50 Free Bets when Registering a New Account) you would have to place big to get any kind of decent return.

The Draw has only even been done a few times in the past by Osasuna when playing at the famous Bernabeu and it is not seen as likely by the bookmakers for another so soon with the best odds found here @  9/1 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Osasuna have only ever won once against Real Madrid at their home ground and this was back in 2004 where Osasuna shocked their hosts with a 3 – 0 humiliation. Having scored in the 1st minute they visitors then went on and continued the onslaught. Bookmakers however do not see the struggling club repeating that anytime soon with the very high odds of 22/1 with BetVictor – £25 Free Bets For New Customers Registering an Account.

Real Madrid v Osasuna Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Monday we see a Real Madrid side that over an hour to score their first goal against relegation fighting side Celta de Vigo. They did however grab another two goals curtsey of a Ronaldo brace but we must take into account that sometimes the lower teams do have a lot more to fight for on occasions. Osasuna are another team who could frustrate Real Madrid on Thursday and have often been seen taking points from Real Madrid in the past. But with the 1st leg predictions only taken into account we haven’t seen Osasuna win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in 10 years and I do not see that changing anytime soon with the form Osasuna are in. They did score 3 goals away from home in the last round which was enough to see them through with the away goal rules taken into account. But can they do it on Thursday against a side looking purely for silverware this year and with them currently 5 points behind leaders Barcelona and Atletico Madrid this cup could be their only chance of any Spanish silverware.

So lets go to the predictions, I have said above that Osasuna could frustrate Real Madrid on Thursday and I can honestly see that happening again, even though I do strongly believe the home side will win and win convincingly after the 90 minutes. With Gareth Bale back we will hopefully once again see the Welsh wizard team up with Cristiano Ronaldo to continue that deadly fearful attacking threat we have seen in recent games. Both could quite possibly grab at least a brace easy if Real Madrid are firing on all cylinders. Can Osasuna score on Thursday? I would say there’s a good chance but will not bank on it and instead go for an all out attack and goal frenzy for Real Madrid. With Ronaldo to score first and for them to win 5 – 0 which will be my first. The other I was going to go with is for Cristiano Ronaldo to score 2 goals or more, but don’t want to push my luck after the world class player only did in a few days ago. So plan to take the same bet but for French star Karim Benzema to score 2+ goals instead.
