Manchester City v Borussia Monchengladbach Preview, Champions League, Tuesday 8th December 2015.

Luckily for Manchester City they have already qualified with currently being in second position in the group table. They could still come top yet although the odds of bottom club Sevilla beating Juventus are extremely slim. The last time these two met it was in Germany where Manchester City came out lucky winners with a 90th minute penalty kick, in which club top scorer Sergio Aguero converted to give the club three points. City have so far lost twice in the group stages, being both against the Italian Champions Juventus, who this season are playing far better in the Champions League than in their domestic league. Manchester City are the favourites to win Tuesday night, even though the club have lost three of their last five fixtures in all competitions which also includes last weekends 2 – 0 loss to Stoke City away from home.

Borussia Monchengladbach may not be doing that well in the Champions league this season yet they are doing remarkably well in the Bundesliga with them current sitting in third place. They maybe out of the Champions League even if they do manage to beat this out of form Manchester City side, yet the Europa League is somewhere where they could do some damage. That said they will be relying on Sevilla to lose to Juventus on Tuesday so then not to have to worry too much about their own result. Borussia Monchengladbach have only won once this year in the Champions League, which was their last game to Sevilla. They could of won against Manchester City in Germany yet conceded two goals late in the game to lose 2 – 1. They managed two excellent draws against Juventus, the only club in the group to take points from the Italian Giants.

Manchester City Team News:

Good news for Manchester City who have seen Yaya Toure return from injury and train today in preparation for the Borussia Monchengladbach game. The midfielder missed out against Stoke City at the weekend and with him training has declared himself fit for selection. Fernando is out with a hamstring injury as well as defender Martin Demichelis who was absent from training. Eliaquim Mangala is back from suspension and the only other injury news is that of Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Samir Nasri who all miss out.

Borussia Monchengladbach Team News:

The only recent injury for Borussia Monchengladbach that I can find is Granit Xhaka who was stretchered off on international duty two months ago after tearing his ankle ligaments. The game was away to Estonia and the club would of missed his absence after the youngster had scored twice on seven Bundesliga appearances to date. The 23 year old joins long term injured Nico Schulz and Patrick Herrmann who both have torn crucial knee ligament damage.

Manchester City v Borussia Monchengladbach Head to Head Statistics:

The two clubs have only faced each other once in the past which was in this season’s Champions League Group stages. Borussia Monchengladbach were extremely unlucky to lose the game having lead for nearly an hour. Only to then concede late on via a dubious penalty claim, in which Argentine International Sergio Aguero converted to give Manchester City the win. City are favourites to win the game on Tuesday, even though Borussia Monchengladbach are in lightning form having recently beaten Bayern Munch in the Bundesliga.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

With only the one game played there is little to go on when looking at a goals per game average, but as you can see with three goals scored in the previous game the average will be set at 3 goals per game. But to be honest it is a pretty solid option and the below selection could be a viable selection for Tuesdays fixture.

Manchester City v Borussia Monchengladbach Recent Form All Competitions (Left to Right)

Manchester City: L W W L L

Borussia Monchengladbach: W D W W D

Borussia Monchengladbach are a team in very good form right now as they managed to do what every other Bundesliga team have failed too all season long. They beat the German Champions in style while hammering them 3 – 1 on the night. Manchester City on the other hand may well be favourites to win this Tuesday, but come into the game on the back of a poor 2 – 0 defeat to low ranking Stoke City.

Manchester City v Borussia Monchengladbach Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Champions League action this Tuesday comes live to us via BT Sports 2 High Definition and features home side Manchester City welcoming Borussia Monchengladbach to the Etihad Stadium. Both teams are currently experiencing a different run of form right now with Manchester City the worse having only won twice in the last five games, and even then one of these games was in the Capital One Cup quarter final against lower league opposition Hull City. They have recently lost to Liverpool 4 – 1 and Stoke City last weekend 2 – 0. Then on top of that also lost away from home to Italian Champions Juventus, thus not being in the best of positions. On top of that they have also been knocked off the top of the Premiership by Leicester City and now three points adrift.

Borussia Monchengladbach on the other hand are in exceptional form having won three of their last five games, which also does of course include the humiliation of Bayern Munich 3 – 1, a win in which no other domestic team has managed to do so far this season. The club haven’t lost a game in twelve matches, with the last being when Manchester City won luckily on the night 2 – 1 back in late September. Borussia Monchengladbach are now third in the Bundesliga and working their way on catching up that of Borussia Dortmund and high flying Bayern Munich. They will have their chance on pulling back some points to Borussia Dortmund with them due to face them near the end of January. In which I am sure to see Borussia Monchengladbach go full out and potentially win at home.

Prediction for Tuesday nights game are strongly leaning towards that of Manchester City, especially with them being at home. But then we need to remember Liverpool were in great form and when they recently traveled to the Etihad Stadium they were easy winners with a surprise 4 – 1 victory, and with the form Borussia Monchengladbach are in could we potentially see them shock the Manchester club? Anyway we cant go for an away win as a banker, so for me I plan to take 2 to 3 goals scored which should be a good option. The other I am going for is a Borussia Monchengladbach win of some kind, I just feel with Manchester City already qualifying they could take their foot off the gas somewhat. So lets go for both teams to score and Borussia Monchengladbach to win the game as a shock result!
