Fulham v Aston Villa Preview, Premier League, Sunday 8th December 2013

Fulham are in serious trouble right now having slumped into a relegation position in the league and could be looking at the drop if they continue to fail at turning their season around. Having sacked manager Martin Jol in recent weeks which has left ex Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen in charge to try and achieve just that. Having lost 7 games on the bounce some might be asking if they have it them to beat an Aston Villa side who are themselves in great form having climbed to mid table with some impressive performances.

The last 5 games have seen some much needed results for Paul Lambert’s side who managed an impressive win away from home to a Southampton side who are playing incredibly right now. Although Aston Villa have experienced 2 wins and 3 draws in the last 5 games they will be looking to further extend their personal best season long result of 5 games unbeaten until their next opponents who are Manchester United at home on the 15th of this month.

Fulham Team News:

Fulham will unlikely see Hugo Rodallega feature in Sundays game or again until after Christmas as he is suffering from a groin injury, much like defender Matthew Briggs who is still trying to recover in time but is a heavy doubt. We do however hope to see captain Brede Hangeland return to action in time for Sundays match, he has been out for a month due to sciatic nerve issues and is getting closer to match fitness.

Aston Villa Team News:

Aston Villa lost club captain Ron Vlaar at half time to Southampton during the week so is unlikely to feature against Fulham on Sunday much like Jores Okore and Charles N’Zogbia who are both out with a knee ligament (Okore) and Achilles (N’Zogbia) injury. We could however see the return of Joe Bennett who looks to have recovered from a back injury in time to fill the gap Vlaar has sadly left.

Fulham v Aston Villa Head to Head Statistics

The last 5 results are very even with the advantage going to Fulham with the home win, but in the last 44 games played between these two sides we see Aston Villa having the advantage with 16 wins to Fulham’s 12. We do however have only 3 away wins for Aston Villa but could their form overcome that low result on Sunday?

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the last 5 games we have a really low amount of goals and even if we use the last 44 games as an example we still have only seen 124 goals. Which is giving us an average of 2.8 goals which isn’t too bad as long as we see some improvements coming into this game Sunday.

Fulham v Aston Villa Recent Form (Left to Right)

Fulham: L L L L L

Aston Villa: W D D W D

Without a doubt we see Aston Villa in far better form as Fulham continue to slump downwards and unlikely to stop unless they can pick up their confidence and start playing to their potential. Before these last 5 Aston Villa results they did however succumb to a couple of losses themselves but lately have turned that around and started to climb the Premiership table.

Fulham v Aston Villa Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With taking into account all of the stats I have found the results are screaming out with ending as a draw on Sunday. But that is not what Aston Villa will be looking for as coming into this game with their best form this season they will be looking to continue the good run of results before they face Manchester United on the 15th of this month. Also taking into account we see Fulham’s form in dire shape here which will also be something manager Paul Lambert will be looking to exploit.

But surely Fulham will start finding form soon, they have some terrific talent in their starting line up and with the possible return of Hangeland in the back four could they possible use his influence to keep out some goals? Even a draw would be good for Fulham right now and considering Aston Villa have done that 9 times so far away from home it could well be on the cards for Sundays game. Surprisingly enough it is going to be one of my predictions and has been purely taken from the history of the head to head statistics.

My other prediction will be for Fulham to sneak a win, although how unlikely it may look they could just come away with a 1 nil win and start to pick up their dismal season. I am also going to add Adel Taarabt to the mix and make it a Wincast.
