Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Preview, Premiership, Saturday 08th August 2015

Manchester United will be looking to do much better than their 4th place finish last season and with their manager Louis Van Gaal having strengthened the squad during the summer break with some notable new signings, every United player taking to the field on Saturday afternoon will be fully aware of the importance of winning this opening game of the new season.

Tottenham Hotspur have also added a number of new faces to their squad over the summer break and will be confident of returning back to the capital with at least something from this game having won in impress fashion during their final pre-season match 2-0 against AC Milan.

Manchester United Team News:

New signings Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero all look likely to start for the hosts, but the side will be without their inspirational goal keeper David de Gea as his manager believes the player has been affected by speculation regarding his future and both Bastian Schweinsteiger and defender Marcos Rojo are unavailable as they lack match fitness.

Wayne Rooney will lead the attack up front and will be looking to carry on his recent record of having scored more goals on opening weekends in the BPL than any current player.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld are also likely to be handed their debuts in this opening game of the season, but manager Mauricio Pochettino will wait for results of goal keeper Hugo Lloris who is scheduled to undergo a late fitness test.

Andros Townsend remains a doubt and striker Emmanuel Adebayor is unlikely to feature as his future at the club is very much in doubt. Harry Kane will lead the attack up front and will be looking to do a bit better than he did during England’s U21 World Cup bid where he failed to score in any of the three matches played.

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head Statistics:

Saturday afternoon’s game from Old Trafford will become the 153rd meeting between the two clubs over the years. Manchester United have won 79 times overall, with 55 of those having came at the Theatre of Dreams. Tottenham Hotspur have won 34 times overall, with just 11 of those having came at Old Traford.

The previous 5 meetings below in our head to head statistics show Tottenham Hotspur having a slight advantage over their hosts having won 2 times with Manchester Untied having only won once and the remaining two matches having finished all square.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

442 Goals have been scored in the previous 152 meetings between the two clubs and this provides us with an overall average goals per game statistic of 2.91.

226 of those Goals have came in the 78 previous matches played at Old Trafford and this generates us an average goal scoring statistic of 2.90.

Based on both sets of data shown above, it does seem to indicate that this game should see a minimum of at least two goals scored and a strong possibility that both teams will get on the score-sheet.

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Match Betting Odds Market

Manchester United are the clear favourites to win this game on Sunday afternoon with the current best price available of 4/6 with BetVictor – £50 Free Bets for New Customers.

The Draw has happened three times in the previous five meetings between the two clubs over recent seasons and looks value at a current best price of 3/1 with Ladbrokes – £50 Free Bets for New Customers.

Tottenham Hotspur ado have a squad capable of winning this game, but they would need to score the first goal of the game in my opinion and keep a certain Wayne Rooney quiet in front of goal for that to happen, but do also look good value with a current best price of 11/2 with Coral – Deposit £5 & Receive £20 Free Bets for New Customers.

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Both managers will know the importance of getting the new season off to a good start and with Manchester United having home advantage and just edging it on the overall statistics, they do look the more likely winners of this game come Saturday afternoon.

However, Tottenham Hotspur will be in confident mood after their 2-0 victory against AC Milan in the Audi Cup last time out and although Harry Kane didn’t feature in that match, he will look at this game as a chance to prove his worth to his manager and I certainly expect him to keep the United defence busy.

Both squads have brought in some world class players, most notably Memphis Depay for Manchester United and he could be the telling factor in this game if he manages to cope with the more physical and quicker game what the Premiership is famous for.

I do believe Tottenham Hotspur could get at least one goal during this game though and as such my Banker Free Tip for this match is going to be for Both Teams to Score as five of the last seven meetings between the two clubs has seen this Banker fly in.

My First Goalscorer Free Tip is going to be Wayne Rooney as he has an excellent record of scoring goals on the opening day of the season and back in his familiar role up front he will be relishing the chance to open his account for the season against a side that has a history of having weak defences.
