Chelsea v Swansea City Preview, Premiership, Saturday 8th August 2015.

Champions Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be looking to kick start this campaign with a solid three points and will look to challenge once again come the end of the season. The manager recently signed an extension to his contract and it comes as no surprise with him being the most successful Chelsea manager in their history. Their pre-season form hasn’t been too much to be desired having lost twice in the International Championship Cup. They did manage to beat Barcelona and PSG yet that was on penalties. They did also lose to Arsenal 1 – 0 in the Community Shield at Wembley which did bring some rather humorous comments from Jose Mourinho regarding Arsene Wenger.

Swansea City played five pre-season friendlies during their break and in each of them have only managed the one win against German side 1860 Munchen. That said they did also fail to lose which is something to be cheerful about although all of the competition hasn’t been too much to shout about, with the likes of Championship sides Reading and Nottingham Forest. The club have two tough fixtures in their opening five games with Manchester United up at the end of this month. They then have Sunderland, neighbours Newcastle United and newly promoted Watford.

Chelsea Team News:

Chelsea haven’t been too active in the transfer market thus far with the only major name being that of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke City. They have also seen Kenedy from Fluminense for just over £6 million while Nathan has also joined from Atletico-PR for £3 million. They have however signed a huge name but on a loan deal, which is Falcao who failed to impress at Manchester United last season. Leaving the club however they have seen Filipe Luis leave for Atletico Madrid and also Petr Cech to Arsenal. As for injuries we see Diego Costa missing due to the usual hamstring strain, although he was hopeful to hand his manager the good news of his return to fitness. (which looks unlikely)

Swansea City Team News:

The club have only made a few signings so far this season and only managed to spend just under £10 million of their transfer budget. Eder from Braga is the more expensive being just under £5 million while Franck Tabanou joins from Saint-Etienne for £3.5 mill. Kristoffer Nordfeldt also has joined the club for £600k. Eight players have left the club with seven of those being free transfers.

Chelsea v Swansea City Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five head to head encounters we have seen Chelsea completely dominate the Welsh side with five solid wins. We have ten games recorded in total with Swansea City only winning one of them. Meaning the remaining three games have ended as draws. Chelsea are favourites for Saturdays game especially with the home advantage.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the ten games played that we have recorded there has been a total of twenty six goals scored. The majority of those however have been from Chelsea who lay claim to nineteen of them. The goals per game average is coming in at 2.6 which when looking at the last five games seems seems a little inaccurate. The below option I do feel will be a good option for tomorrows game.

Even though last years Premier League Champions have lost three games during pre-season, they are still the better team in form and the more likely to win come Saturday. They have also beaten Barcelona and French Champions during their International Champions Cup even though it was by penalties.

Chelsea v Swansea City Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Last seasons champions Chelsea may not be kick starting the season but without doubt I am sure we are expecting an explosive start to their campaign at the famous Bridge stadium. They are the second live game of the day with Manchester United taking on Tottenham Hotspurs at the lunchtime kick off. Jose Mourinho can’t be best pleased with the pre-season his side have witnessed, as losing far too many than expected will certainly of hurt. Especially with them also losing to Arsenal in the Community Shield they will want to start the league with a good solid win against Swansea City.

Swansea City also haven’t enjoyed much of a pre-season, although at least they can hold their heads up high having not lost a game. Their results see four draws and the single win against German side 1860 Munchen. Swansea City are favourites to earn around nine points out of their first five games, as winning against Chelsea and Manchester United does look unlikely by the bookmakers. Swansea City enjoyed their best season ever previously and will certainly be looking to once again improve on the progression the club has been making since being in the Premiership.

My predictions for Saturdays game does without doubt see Chelsea win with ease. As I can’t see Swansea City budging Chelsea too much and winning themselves three points away from home, especially at The Bridge. The first I am going for is a correct scoreline of Chelsea to win 2 – 0. As when looking at the above head to head statistics it looks more likely to be a closer game than the usual hammering than what they are used to recently. The other is for Eden Hazard to score any time during the game which is also a good option seeing as the the talented Belgian has an eye for goal.
