Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton Preview, Premiership, Sunday 8th May 2016.

Sadly for Tottenham Hotspurs they have managed to throw away any chance of winning the Premiership this season when they threw away a 2 – 0 lead away from home against Chelsea last Monday. The game before that also didn’t help towards their cause with a really poor draw score at home against strugglers West Bromwich Albion. Anyway that said it didn’t matter in the end as Leicester City continued their great form with a 3 – 1 win at home against Everton on Saturday.

The Chelsea game wasn’t the most cleanest of games I have seen them play this season and I was shocked to see the game actually finish with eleven men on either side. Moussa Dembele was one of the nine Spurs players to receive a booking on Monday and luckily didn’t see red with the referee failing to see his eye gouge on Diego Costa. Unluckily for him though the camera’s didn’t miss it and the midfielder has since found himself on the end of a six game match ban.

Southampton can hold their heads up high coming into the clubs last two fixtures with them currently sitting in a healthy seventh position in the league table. With West Ham United losing this Saturday against Swansea City we could even see Southampton finish in sixth, or even fifth if Manchester United lose their remaining two games. With wins over Liverpool and more recently Manchester City, the club certainly do have some bragging rights coming into this game.

Could Southampton hurt Tottenham Hotspurs more than they have recently been having lost the title race? If Spurs managed to lose both of their remaining games then rivals Arsenal could sneak into second position which would certainly add salt into the already gaping wounds. The odds are for Tottenham Hotspurs to pick themselves up and win the game although I certainly feel it is within Southampton to hurt Spurs if they are not careful.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News:

As we already know, Mauricio Pochettino will be without midfielder Mousa Dembele with him now serving a six match suspension after losing his cool against Chelsea last Monday evening. Dele Alli is also currently serving a suspension and serves his second game of three. The only injury worry they have is Nabil Bentaleb who is currently sidelined due to a knee issue.

Southampton Team News:

Southampton have a fully fit squad to face Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday. Striker Graziano Pelle was dropped last week when the side managed to humiliate Manchester City in a 4 – 2 win, and this was due to the man playing badly and putting in little effort in training previously. We are unsure if he will be included to play against Spurs on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton Head to Head Statistics:

In the last five games played against each other it is clear to see Tottenham Hotspurs have had the better run of results with four wins and a draw. The two have played each other on 77 occasions with Spurs out in front with 36 wins and 18 draws. Leaving the remaining 23 games see as loses which isn’t too bad for Southampton.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the 77 games played out against each other we have seen a total of 230 goals scored over time. This is going to give us a goals per game average of 3 and is more than realistic to see at least two or three goals scored again this Sunday. So the best option would be below.

Tottenham Hotspur: D D W W D

Southampton: W W D W L

Both sides have been in good form this season yet sadly for Spurs they seemed to have dipped recently having recently drawn three of their last five games. Which has actually cost them to league now that Leicester City have won it. Southampton could still possibly finish in 5th, although 6th position is more realistic if West Ham United continue losing.

Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton Match Predictions, Banker Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets

Premiership action this Sunday can be viewed live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features home side Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane against in form Southampton who have since managed to defeat Liverpool and Manchester City with ease. As we have already established, Tottenham Hotspurs have slipped up recently and allowed Leicester City to walk away with it and win the Premier League.

Champions League next season is in the bag for Tottenham Hotspurs with them only able to finish in either second of third position. If Manchester City somehow manage to score an incredible mount of goals in their final two games then maybe 4th, but seriously unlikely. If Tottenham Hotspurs manage to win this Sunday then second place is theirs to keep as even if Arsenal do manage to win against Manchester City they wont manage to out do their bitter rivals who have a far superior goal difference.

Southampton have a fully fit squad to face this Tottenham Hotspurs side on Sunday and could catch the Londoners off guard much like they have recently against Manchester City who are now under threat to lose their 4th place Champions League finish. With the football Tottenham Hotspurs have been playing this season I do feel sorry for them as they have been the best footballing side I’ve seen all season.

With West Ham United losing on Saturday against Swansea City I am wondering how things will end up for the East End club who next face Manchester United at Upton Park. I would of fancied West Ham to win that game but now I am unsure, which could leave the gap open for Southampton to steal a further spot and climb the league.

My predictions for this game is to end as a draw, that’s what I am thinking when looking at my banker selection anyway. I do also feel both teams will score during the match and you could either go for a 1 – 1 or a 2 – 2 I feel. Me however I am going to go for both teams to score and draw the match. The other I am going for is a correct score of Tottenham Hotspurs to win 2 – 1 on the day.
