Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers Preview, FA Cup Quarter Final, Sunday 8th March 2015

This FA Cup clash should be a routine fixture for this in form Liverpool side although the Premiership side must also take into account just how Blackburn Rovers have been performing during this FA Cup campaign. Liverpool have had a much easier run than their opponents and only faced the one Premiership side in Crystal Palace. The other competition has been Bolton Wanderers who managed to stretch Liverpool, and then also AFC Wimbledon who also did well when welcoming Brendan Rodgers side to their ground. In other news regarding the competitions Liverpool have taken part in, we see them knocked out of the Europa League when losing on penalties in Turkey, yet in the league we do see them in incredible form having not lost in twelve games since that 3 – 0 defeat away from home to Manchester United.

Blackburn Rovers on the other hand are not exactly on tip top form in the Championship, with them currently sitting in tenth position and only one win in their last five games. Yet they do seem to know how to win when it comes down to this FA Cup competition this year having already knocked out two Premiership clubs with Stoke City and Swansea City falling short. Blackburn Rovers have a reasonable amount of winnable games coming up, with the toughest of the next four being Brentford. They should really win at home to Bolton Wanderers and could even pull off a win away from home to Charlton Athletic. Yet it’s the game against Brighton & Hove Albion that should really provide them with some much needed points.

Liverpool Team News:

Good potential news for Liverpool fans with the news that club captain Steven Gerrard could return for the game against Blackburn Rovers. Gerrard has missed the last six games in all competitions due to a hamstring injury but did return to training this week. Manager Brendan Rodgers however has stated that the veteran is not guaranteed to play and will all depend on match fitness and if he is completely ready.

Blackburn Rovers Team News:

Sadly for Blackburn Rovers we see Josh King out of this fixture due to a hamstring issue, the match winner and hat-trick hero against Stoke City in the fifth round will be a huge blow for the Championship club. We do however see that Doneil Henry is available for selection. The defender who is on loan from West Ham United is keen to make his mark for Blackburn in the remaining games of the season.

Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers Head to Head Statistics:

In total we have 108 games recorded and see it is Liverpool as expected, the better side with 47 wins and 27 loses. Meaning the remaining 34 games have ended in a draw of some kind.

As we can see above, it is clearly Premiership side Liverpool who are experiencing the better run of form with them only losing the once in their last five games. Of course that loss would of hit them hard with it seeing their exit out of the Europa League competition. Blackburn Rovers are not playing too well in the league, yet do seem to know how to knock out Premiership clubs in the FA Cup, with them already doing so twice.

Liverpool v Blackburn Rovers Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup action this Sunday comes to us live on BT Sports 1 High Definition and features Liverpool verses Blackburn Rovers at Anfield. The Championship side have so far claimed the scalps of Swansea City and Stoke City and also seen off Charlton Athletic in the third round of the competition. Liverpool however have only faced Crystal Palace as their toughest opponents, even though they had already lost to the London club earlier in the year. Their other victories in the competition have been to AFC Wimbledon and Bolton Wanderers who themselves took Liverpool to their limits while forcing a replay.

Liverpool’s form has been superior lately with only their loss in the Europa League having anything worthy of note. The away loss to Besiktas however did bring a lot of pain as an exit on penalties was obviously the last the thing they had hoped for. Blackburn Rovers form however hasn’t been the best as they currently sit in tenth position in the Championship. In their last five league games they have only lost the once, but then also only won the once while seeing three draws. The best of those draws however can be noted as successful with it being against AFC Bournemouth away from home.

My predictions for this FA Cup Quarter Final will of course back the Premiership club Liverpool as successors and progress to the semi final which are played at Wembley. I do think I am going to go for a score/win double and go for the incredible talents of Phillippe Coutinho who seems to find the net from any angle right now. The next I am going to go for will come as a surprise and will of course be the same for Liverpool if it comes to light. Yet I do feel it will give them the kick they need to then win the game. That choice will of course be Liverpool to win or draw from behind.
