Athletic Bilbao v Barcelona Preview, Primera La Liga, Sunday 8th February 2015

Athletic Bilbao seem to be a completely different team this year with them struggling just below mid table this season. If it wasn’t for their most recent win they would of been even lower down in fifteenth with only a few points between them and a relegation battle. Yet an away win to Levante has seen them climb to twelfth and potentially giving them some belief at home against this devastating Barcelona side. They did also win in the Cope del Rey and now face Espanyol in the next round so could still hold some hope for some silverware this season.

Barcelona are in exceptional form right now and have won nine of their last ten games in all competitions. They other result was a loss to David Moyes side Real Sociedad yet that result now seems far off in the back of Barcelona’s mind as they look to close the four point gap between them and current league leaders Real Madrid. After this expected win against Bilbao, we then see Barcelona in the Cope del Rey at home against Villarreal before they then return to La Liga action against bottom club Levante and then tougher opponents Malaga who are seventh.

Athletic Bilbao Team News:

Athletic Bilbao are without a couple of players for this game with Guillermo Fernandez being the first with a sprained ankle. The next is Iraola who is currently suspended after reaching his five yellow card limit. The clubs top scorer is currently Aduriz who is on seven, and also was responsible for scoring both goals in their last victory against Levante recently.

Barcelona Team News:

Barcelona are also missing a couple of players for this game, although both are out injured with no players currently suspended. Brazilian Douglas Pereira is one of the players out with a thigh muscle strain, with the other the Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen still with his hamstring issue. The clubs top scorer in the La Liga is as expected Lionel Messi with twenty two goals so far.

Barcelona: W W W W W

Barcelona are clearly the better team in form here with nine wins and a single loss recorded in their last ten games in all competitions. Athletic Bilbao may of won their last two games yet before that were a side in very low form considering how good they were last season.

Athletic Bilbao v Barcelona Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

Primera La Liga action on Sunday comes to us live on Sky Sports 1 High Definition and features Athletic Bilbao at home against in form Barcelona. The away side Barcelona will be looking to make it their ninth win on the trot and will be looking to keep up the pressure on current league leaders Real Madrid who sit four points in front right now. Athletic Bilbao are far from the club we see last season and a couple of weeks ago were a side close to fighting to get away from the relegation pack ever so slightly below them.

Barcelona are in exceptional form right now and have won nine in their last ten games, with the other being that loss against David Moyes side Real Sociedad. Since then Barcelona have been pretty much destroying teams, with the only low scoring game being that 1 – 0 win over Atletico Madrid in the Cope del Rey back in January. Barcelona have scored an impressive thirty four goals in their last ten games and also conceded only six during this time, with four of these seen in the last two games played.

My predictions for this game do see Barcelona win with each, and will no doubt be backing them for both predictions one way of the other. So for the first I think I am going for a Luis Suarez goal and Barcelona to win, the ex Liverpool striker hasn’t scored in his last six appearances so must be due a goal soon I feel. The next I am going for is Barcelona to win by a three or more goal margin.
