Liverpool v Arsenal Preview, Premiership, Saturday 8th February 2014

Saturdays Premiership highlight of the weekend will no doubt be Liverpool hosting current leaders Arsenal in what looks to be a very exciting game in the waiting. Brendan Rodgers will see this as a must win match if his side seriously want to push for their first ever Premiership title and as they currently sit eight points behind Arsenal, a win at Anfield will be essential if Liverpool wish to keep up the pace. Liverpool’s local rivals Everton are close on their tails and if they had won against West Brom the 4th position spot may of hosted a different club.

Arsenal’s win against Crystal Palace at the weekend allowed them to move back to the top of the Premiership as Manchester City caved in to pressure against a Jose Mourinho side. With only two points clear at the top it will be a must win for Arsene Wenger if he wishes to stay their. This is due to Manchester City’s away game against Norwich City seen as an easy 3 points for the blues as they look to make up for lost points in their last game. It will be a tough game for Arsenal as Liverpool have played extremely well at home this season while picking up 31 points in 12 home games.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool will again be without defenders Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho which leaves this Liverpool side very light at the back. With Agger out with a calf strain since their FA Cup win over Oldham it would not of aided Rodgers goals seeing Sakho also struggling with a hamstring injury. Liverpool are also with out defenders Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson who both share long term injuries.

Arsenal Team News:

With England and Arsenal star Jack Wilshere back available for selection it will be a ray of sunshine for Arsene Wenger who is still missing Flamini due to suspension and of course Welsh star Aaron Ramsey who is suffering from a thigh strain. New deadline day loan signing Kallstrom was unlucky to fall fate to a back injury before even making his Arsenal debut and Wenger are also still missing Thomas Vermaelen with a calf injury. Yaya Sanogo is still recovering slowing from a back injury and we also will not be seeing long term injured Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott.

Liverpool v Arsenal Head to Head Statistics:

In the last 5 head to head battles we can see it is Arsenal who come out on top with 3 wins, a draw and a loss which would suggest they have been the better team in the last couple of years. In the total of 180 games played between the two we have seen both teams come up equal with 66 wins each and then 48 draws. Arsenal have drawn 17 times away from home and also won 26 times at Anfield.

In these 180 games played in total we have seen both teams score 493 times between them which is giving us an average of 2.7 goals per game. Which if you look at the last 5 head to heads is very close as we are looking at an average of 2.6. These stats are pretty consistent through the years so could be solid selection when placing a bet.

Liverpool v Arsenal Recent Form (Left to Right)

Arsenal: W D W W W

Arsenal sit atop the Premiership again after Chelsea beat Manchester City away from home on Monday and although Liverpool have started to play well again recently it is still Arsenal who are the better side in form right now with 4 wins and a draw in the last 5 games in all competitions.

Liverpool v Arsenal Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

With everything taken into account this game on Saturday lunchtime will no doubt be a huge spectacle with millions of people planning to watch it on BT Sports 1 HD. Liverpool haven’t dropped too many points at home this season but they are facing the top Premiership team and with themselves having to chase a win it could well force them to play more risky than usual.

Arsenal have beaten Liverpool sixty six times in the past with twenty six of those games set at the famous Anfield stadium. We have also seen them draw on seventeen occasions while on their travels so we can clearly see Arsene Wenger’s side are not scared to fight for results at Liverpool’s ground. With Arsenal sitting top of the league and playing exceptionally well you could see them coming away with some form of result on Saturday lunchtimes match.

So lets get down to some predictions for a game if I am honest could go either way on the day. But for me personally I feel its either going to be a score draw or Arsenal could nick it by a goal to nil. Would these be my selected predictions for below? Sure we could go with that but another stat you need to take into account is the goals per game average which has been close to stable for many years when these two meet. So my first will be for 2 or 3 goals scored in the 90 minutes with the other being a score draw.
