Exeter City v Liverpool Preview, FA Cup 3rd Round, Friday 8th January 2016.

It’s that magical time of year again when the FA Cup fever takes over once more and this time round we see struggling League Two side take on the might of Liverpool FC of the Premiership. Exeter City did enjoy a great victory in the second round of the competition back in December where they took on Port Vale at home beat them 2 – 0. Since then however Exeter have succumbed to four straight league loses and continue to slide down the table into sixteenth position. They are still thirteen points adrift the relegation positions but if results don’t pick up again soon then the club could find themselves fighting for survival come the end of the season.

Liverpool come into this game off the back of a Capital One Cup semi final away win against fellow premiership side Stoke City when Jordan Ibe scored eight minutes before half time earning the only goal of the match. It leaves Liverpool in a good position for the second leg at home at the end of January in which they should be favourites to progress into the final of the competition. Liverpool’s league place has suffered recently however with them losing both to Watford and more recently West Ham United away from home. Liverpool have a couple of tough games coming up even though they are at home, with top of the league Arsenal first on the agenda.

Exeter City Team News:

Exeter City star man Christian Ribeiro has returned from injury and declared himself fit for this Friday’s FA Cup clash against Liverpool, and actually fancies his team to beat the might of Jurgen Klopp and his men. The 26 year old right back hasn’t played a game since November after having surgery on his knee.

Liverpool Team News:

Liverpool are expecting to rest a number of first team players and we are likely to see Adam Bogdan in goal again as Mignolet takes a break. Youngsters Brad Smith and Connor Randall could replace Nathaniel Clyne and Moreno in the full back positions also giving them a rest. Joe Allen is playing for his Liverpool career having only played one game this season, and the midfielder could start on Friday to earn his chance of a renewed contract.

Exeter City v Liverpool Head to Head Statistics:

We only have the one game recorded between these two historic clubs where Liverpool played away from home and earned the easy 3 – 1 win. Liverpool are of course favourites to win this game on Friday, even though Jurgen Klopp plans to play a lot of the teams youngsters. The last time the two played was back in 2011, where they met in the Capital One Cup.

Previous Average Goals Per Game Statistics

In the one game played there were four goals scored which will be our goals per game average, and to be honest it could be a safe bet to also take roughly the same scored again come Friday. The below option would be a nice option to take.

Exeter City are on the decline in League Two having lost the last four on the trot, their only win recently in the last five games was against Port Vale in the FA Cup second round. Liverpool are the better side and in better form, although they themselves recently have lost a couple of Premier League games.

Exeter City v Liverpool Match Predictions, Tips & First Goal Scorer Bets.

FA Cup third round action on Friday night features League Two side Exeter City verses the Premiership giants Liverpool and will no doubt be creating so much excitement down in Exeter and the surrounding area. Exeter City did manage a great 2 – 0 win over Port Vale back in December, even though the League One side themselves are not playing the best of football right now. They are in trouble in the league having lost their last four League Two matches and will need to start picking up results this month against the likes of Morecambe and Leyton Orient.

Liverpool themselves are not at their best once again after having such an impressive run of games once Jurgen Klopp took over from Brenden Rodgers. In their last five Premier League games they have lost twice against Watford and West Ham United and also dropped points against the likes of West Bromwich Albion. They did beat high flying Leicester City 1 – 0 but then only managed a small 1 – 0 victory over Sunderland away from home. They have Arsenal and Manchester United at Anfield next which even though they are at home will no doubt be tough fixtures, especially against Arsenal who are in great form currently.

Predictions for this FA Cup 3rd Round game will no doubt of course back that of Liverpool even though they are playing a team of youngsters against the League Two strugglers. With a number of players being rested it leaves a lot of pressure on Liverpool’s youth and the manager who will no doubt be demanding a win from his side. My first prediction is for the only Liverpool striker who is fit to score two or more goals on the night. The next I am going for isn’t giving the best odds, but with Liverpool playing a weakened side I do feel Exeter City have a chance to score. So lets take both teams to score and Liverpool to win the game
